It has come to that time where I need to get race Belts/harnesses for my ae85.

What is a good belt brand to go for? and how many points is reccomended? and a good place to get them from? I am not a dentist or a bank robber so I cant afford top of the line stuff so what should I expect to be paying for middle of the road gear?

Go for the Sylvester one from Sydenham park. Go for the cam lock version... very popular for the price. Oh and its 5 point. Go for 5, even though it pulls on your nuts.

Silvester belts seem to be the best bang for buck - $199+gst for FIA approved (5 year for MSNZ). Come in 5pt cam lock. I have a pair for my passenger seat. becoming a very popular club racing belt due to price.

I use Sabelt for the drivers seat - alittle more pricey but still a good brand

yip make sure you get FIA 5 year lifr ones not SFi 2 year ones.
Camlock is the go, I've had leaver action ones come loose during a competition run. Unfortuneitly for me it happened to be a run which we left the road and found a tree while doing 120k's an hour.

I'd agree with the above.

FIA not SFI 16.1 standard belts. One lasts 2 years, one lasts 5. You do the maths.

Go for 3 inch belts, not 2 inch belts. The narrower ones are hard on your shoulders, I've had both.

I've used Monza (Autotechnica) and Silvester FIA camlock harness', and I much prefer the adjuster on the Monza ones for ease of use.

None of the above are legal for use on the road, other than in competition cars with a current authority card.

go to cardwells on william pickering drive in albany, they have sfi and fia belts at pretty good prices.

They also sell the roll protection padding which is what you'll need too :wink:

If you use 5 point you'll need to add another anchorage for the one which hugs your balls. There are specifications on the size and thickness of reenforcement plate to use, look on the motorsport website

if I had known about the Silvester $199 fia belts I would have got them. I currently have 5 point RJS sfi standard which cost me $120 each.

I have a Silvester belt and a ERG belt in the race car , both are 3" cam lock 5 pointers and I prefer the adjusters on the ERG one , but it was $140ish more than the Silvester one($199) .
I'm happy with the quaitly of both

I just bought two silvester harnesses, apparantly they are cheapest FIA approved harness around (price wise)

You could always go for some SPARCO ones 3 inch 6 point cam lock ones I have two sets going into my car, FIA compliant and top quality. Also get some harness pads and make sure they are nomex.

I would also make sure that what ever ones you get you get snap in kits for them so you can take them out of the car when not in use so they dont sun fade and/or get nicked.

Shore perforamance do this brand i forgot what they are, its not a cam lock, but its only around $110 and they supply you with a new set after 2 years is up, so it will last another 2 years. something like that anyway.

That'll be RCI Platinum brand. Probably still lever latch though, and with the SFI standard.

Expiry on FIA belts, current stock will be 2011 (end of)

I got the 5 points cam lock Silvester harnesses in my car and i found that the belt are too thick!.. well is good that is thick but they are very hard to adjust!

Not like other harness that I used like Willian and RJS which is alot thinner and can be adjust easily. Oh well, for the price of FIA approve belt, they still good value for $$. I hope the belt will lossen up a little after a while..

It's nothing to do with the thickness of the belt, it is that they use a relatively old fashioned adjuster which is quite difficult to work.

I got mine from silvester v8 performance, ph: 0800 327350, I spoke to a guy called Dave he happens to be toyota fan and funny enough he is a fan of the old ae85/6's. They are based in christchurch but can post anywhere, it only took 15hours for them to send my harnesses up to auckland, however you do have to pay postage.

Oh you know, miles off from finishing, early next year sometime. I just want to sort out the homologation paper work, authority card and log book, and needed seats, harnesses, roll padding etc... to complete that.
