Wof Issue - Remedy play in L.F. Wheel bearing

Postby BZG_UNIT » Mon Nov 06, 2006 10:58 pm

Hey took my ae111 in for a wof today and the guy failed me on two things.
I went to automotive one stop here in palmy
1. Tints to dark (when they are 35%?!?!) not a major tho
2. Remedy play in the left front wheel bearing..

should i rely on these guys to fix it for what he said could be up to $250.. or what else... could get someone else to fix this but is it worth getting the pro job? whats the best option??

$250, all he will be doing is removing tints and tightening bearing right? You could do that yourself for all of 10 to 20 minutes work and if the bearing is buggered just buy a new one off Mr Revhead, I got one for $60 for an ae111, wasnt from revhead though but I think he would be cheaper and better quality.

Changing wheel bearing is a pain, I'm in the process of doing one, and ACL won't press the bearing out for Joe Public.

Might end up going through a mechanic.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Ummm....

Check that it is the wheel bearing and not something else before you start buying things for it!

I had my LH front wheel bearing diagnosed with the same thing when I went for my last WOF. But after I got it fixed they still failed it saying that it wasn't fixed.
I got under the car when it was on the hoist and check it out myself. Turns out it wasn't the wheel bearing that had the play in it, it was one of the super strut joints!!! The mechanic's were like 'huh?, whats that?'.
So after getting another S/S joint for my car, I took it back and they passed it. F#@ken tards!!!

So yeah, get it checked out properly before you have to go spend too much money and not fixing the problem.

...and as for your tints....

I miss the days when tinting ya windows mean't masking them off and spraying them with a can of gloss black.
Your Opinion Means 1/16th Of Stuff All To Me So Dont Bother Arguing With Me About It As I Just Dont Care.

Thank-You.

Have you tryed tightening it with a rattle gun first? because maybe thats all it needs to take out the play.

I would buy a complete 2nd hand hub and just fit that if tightening doesnt take out the play, as most of the time they screw out drive flanges, then it gets expensive

first off check that the CV nut is tight, probly a 32mm, and a big bar, get someone to jump on the brakes. if this does not fix it u will need a new wheel bearing, kits are usually about $100 but ring around. and a mechanic will prob charge 1.5>2 hours it replace it. If doing it urself. remove the wheel, unbolt the shock, brake caliper bracket, CV nut. Undo and crack lower BJ and tierod end. Get hub out and remove backing plate and disc. there will probly be a circlip on the bearing. From there u need a decent press

wofs are meant to mean the cars safe for use on the road, why bother going to a dodgy place that wont tell you your wheel is likely to fall off 100m down the road :?
