What needs to be done to put a Hilux diff into a DX Corolla?

Postby chch34 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 9:07 am

As title says, what needs to be done here, like what axles, dives shaft, mounting points are used? and what new bits need to be fabricated? Its a 4.3 LSD and an '81 Corolla DX.

Ive searched the forum and cant find a thread about this :D 8)

Cheers all

cut off all mounts off the std. ke70 housing and weld them on to the hilux one.
As for axles / width it depends what you want to run. Measure up the width of your's and see if it fits. If its too wide either look around for a shorter one, or get it shortened. Chances are your hilux diff will be 1430mm off a 2wd hilux. Should be ok, but the 1470mm are a little wide unless you want to run FWD offset wheels.

depends what power you're making.
hilux diff once it's got mounts, brakes, d shaft done, is totally solid bit of gear.

do whatever you want and you won't break it.

fit the sucker.

It currently has a welded sigma turbo diff and back end. It has Skyline rear discs and Wilwood calipers. On the front it has Wilwood 4 pots and new maxima discs.

It came with hilux axle housing and axles with 5 stud hubs but no brakes. It also came with hilux drive shaft. Came with factory DX diff housing so i can use the mounts.

- how do i change it to 4 stud? Or what stud pattern it the hilus 5 stud? and if 114.3 then what 5 stud hubs should i use to make the front 5 stud?

- what brake discs should i use that will be effective, available, and easy to install?

Go and get a price off Petes Customs in Sandyford St.
Puts out some amazing work, and I bet he would be cheaper than Palmside
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!

I got some work done at Petes Customs... they did a really below average job and was expensive to boot. I certainly wouldnt go there again. I am sure they do a lot of good work, just wasnt my experience.

Palmside seem to be right into the local racing seen competing in speed and club events, they have given me some good deals in the past. No harm in getting more prices though...

we've had good cheap work done by them
and thats the first bad thing i've heard about Pete's, he's a good guy and all the work i've seen has been pretty good
