A/T ECU in M/T car

Postby johntramp » Fri Feb 17, 2006 12:04 am

Hey I am using an ecu from an automatic car in my manual car. I believe there is a wire I have to jump so that the ecu thinks that it is in park so that the car will start up. Does anyone know anything about this?

The ECU I am using is from an AE111 Levin.

Cheers

Yep thats right.

Im running an auto ecu on my manual 20v (ae101).

Just find the selector plug on the loom that went to the gearbox and jump two wires, or just cut the plug off and join the two wires. Sorry but I cant remember which wires were the right ones :(

The one in the bottom picture looks like the ignitor plug.

The black one in the top picture appears to be the tps plug, hard to tell on that angle.

Its easier to look at a wiring diagram and it'll only be one wire.

that is definately not the ignitor as it is already connected and the TPS would be at the other end of the loom.

I put a 5A fuse between the two black wires on that plug to short out the connection and then started the car but got no spark. Any ideas where to start looking? Cheers

I presume you are saying that the engine turned over which means that you must have shorted out the right connection.
No spark....
Make sure your ignitor or coil is bolted to a good earth as this can be a classic problem.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

no :( giving the ignitor another earth didn't make any difference.

At the moment I have the starter motor wired directly off the ignition so I don't know if the computer is even turning on.

If you can get hold of a multimeter, turn it to ohms to check resistance. (may need a long bit of wire to clip to one probe of the multimeter) and put one end onto the plug in the engine bay and another at the ecu plug . Make sure battery is disconnected and plugs are out of the ecu before attempting to unplug the ecu plugs and caryying out this test. When you have go tthe same wire the multimeter screen should go from infinity (.1 screen display) to circuit (000 on screen display) that way you can tell if it's the right plug/ wire. mark down what wire colours are, then plug ecu plugs back in and turn key on, check there's power at the igniter, also check your fuses too
