It's in CHRISTCHURCH, I'm in AUCKLAND!!!!

Postby Tmax » Mon Nov 13, 2006 9:53 am

So I found the car I want but of course it's in CHRISTCHURCH!!! No offence to all you Christchurchians, it's just a blimmin long way from Aucks!!!

So I need to get it up to Aucks somehow.

Just called a bunch of haulage companies, best price seems to be $600 plus GST. Which seems like a hell of a lot. But then when you work out gas plus ferry, etc, it's about right I guess. Obviously I can road trip it, but of course I can't afford to ferry a car there and 2 cars back! Flights are about $150 to $200, not a bad option.

Anyways, any of you done this yourself or got a better idea?? Please Help!!!

I have heard of people bringing cars up from the south island to the north island on the train?

Not too sure where to get information from but i've heard it's one of the cheaper options.

Guess the idea would be to call Tranz Link or Toll Rail and ask them.

How much would it cost to drive it up?

That train price sounds good when you add up gas and ferry etc.

How safe is train freight though? As they as rough as dock workers?

Ok, just had look at Flight Centre website, say if you were to leave next monday, a one way flight to Chch would be $120.
Ferry back on Bluebridge the following day is $169. Add say $150ish for overnight accommodation, then another $150 in fuel. You're looking at just under $600 to bring it back by yourself.

Just an option ;)
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

I had a car trained up last year, car turned up on a truck at my house. Not a spec of dirt on her, they do look after them, cost me about $500 from memory.

If I were you, and If it’s an older car I would recommend going to pick it up so you can check the condition of the vehicle before purchasing it, the car I brought was not as tidy as the pictures suggested, take a mate and make a road trip out of it.

Hmmm, wouldn't need the accomidation. But I'd hink gas is prob more around $200. So I guess $500'ish. The train for $506+gst is probably looking the best option so far.

Anyone in Chch needing to get to Aucks??!!

Um, how so? You do realise you're entitled to 3 weeks paid leave every year right?
