2JZ-GE into Toyota Prado

Postby wjw » Fri Nov 03, 2006 4:49 pm

Thought you guys might find this interesting :D

This is what could happen to the motors you don't want:

Having finally found a 2JZ-GE with an A340E Trans, with complete ECU and Loom... the mods on my truck have finally started...

Gallery

Truck did have a 1KZ:

This supra did have a 2JZ:

Both are now out, so Rick at 4wd accessories is going to put the 2JZ above into here:

First step is to change the Input shaft, oil pump and bellhousings over, Aceomatic should be doing that this week and giving my auto a service.

So the plan is/was:

* Lots of research - Done, Have wiring diagrams, Toyota Service Manuals etc... only one missing is A343F Trans manual
* Find 2JZ-GE complete with Trans, ECU and loom - Done
* Remove 1KZ - Done
* Swap Trans bits over
* Install 2JZ with original A343 Trans, Serviced and ready to go
* Install New Springs and Shocks for 100mm Lift
* Borrow Riks tyres for Cert
* Buy own 35's ;)

* Get Muddy![/list]

there's a page i did about my JZ surf conversion
a 2JZ VVti turbo would be a nice conversion into a KZJ95 I reckon

Ha looks like you will beat me and finish your conversion first.

I would be keen to catch up with my old motor in your truck at some stage :)

PS its a lot more narrow in the bay than I thought it would be looking at your pic.

Looks cool :) a mate has a 2JZ-GE in his LN130, 150mm lift, 35" tyres, he got scared at 150km/hour.. If it ends up as a trials truck, which right now is seems unlikely, we'd supercharge it.

Trans wise all we had to do was swap the bellhousing. So motor should be in and running by the end of next week depending on how the wiring goes.

Biggest issues right now, are power steering, as I need some bits that I cant find. And making a bracket for the alternator, as it needs to sit at the top of the engine bay.

I'e picked up a manual ECU and VL commodore high flow fuel pump...

hopefully I wont need anything else for this part of the project. After that it will be onto waterproofing, which is supposidly really hard....

I think you's have My old manual ECU? i sent it to chch last week.

the surf speedo's only go to 160, was told by a guy i have played against on a freeway that i was doing 195 at around 6000rpm in 4th - still had HP left too. I will be putting a healthy sized T04 on mine in the next 6 months, have 550cc rx7 injectors, large front mount, 1UZFE throttle body, custom plenum etc all ready to go into it.

4wd vehicles are HEAPS narrower in the engine bays than supra's are believe me i know.

Nope, 4WD, have changed the bellhousing and a few small bits from the A340E to the Prados A343F. Although I could do with another A343 so I can recondition one...

motor should be in be end Monday... :)

hey strx7, you've put a 1uz throttle on a 2jz? or did it read it wrong? If so, how did it bolt up? the pattern looks similar but not quite identical right? Do they use the same tps?

i will be putting a 1UZFE TB onto my 2JZ yes, its going onto my custom plenum chamber which has 6 ram tube style intake trumpets in it, so fitting isn't an issue as the manifold is fully custom to suit what parts I am using.

Hopefuly you have more room than I did when I put one into my 2JZGTE powered LN130. Fiting the engine, radiator, fan and intercooler in is a tight fit!

space the bumper fowards so the rear mounting holes become the front mounting holes, weld on some new steel on to the mounting brackets and a 600x300x70 core sized cooler fits nicely in behind the bumper.
going to put an alloy rad into it when i put the turbo on too. it starts to get a tad on the warmside when doing too many consecutive pushes behind sprintcars at the speedway

4 Door so damn heavy, the 1KZ is a pretty heavy motor though. Will be running 4.1's for the moment, will change them at some point.... ;)

ok so you're all up running weight on the road will probably be closer to 2100 by the time you get 2 people and various stuff onboard.
If you are going to run 35's i'd reccomend 4.5s or possibly even 4.875's.

In my surf with 31x10.5x15's with 4.55's, 2500rpm was 100kph on the open road. I changed to 4.1's a couple of months ago which has dropped it back to around 2200rpm at 100k's and the lesser acceleration IS noticeable. However once the turbo is on i'm sure i'll have the acceleration back, and then some hehe

fully loaded with work gear, the prado weighs in at 2800KG. Am pondering on 4.8's but I'll worry about that later...
