4k problems in my starlet

Postby otazup » Wed Nov 15, 2006 2:49 pm

hey all, tried searching nothing came up....

i have a starlet with a standy 4k in.. only prob is that i cant get it to wind over!..
i have dash lights, i have a good battery. and the cable from battery to starter moter is connected, so is the solenoid. But just wont wind over....no clicks no nothing.

Everything seems to be connected up right...and no fuses are blown. So does anyone have a clue what it could be?? I thought maybe a resistor or the like could be stuffed and that may be the reason.

It can be crash started however and drives fine... dont know if this changes anything.

HELP!!!!!! If not i suppose ill start the process of eliminaiton haha... please save me the trouble

cheers

make sure you have a good heavy earth from the chassis to the motor near the starter. undo the existing one and clean the steel/ terminals and have another crack.
if not, pull starter out and bench test. it may have worn contacts or brushes.

cheers guys for the reply.. as TOYROTA said to check that box, which i did and its brand new..also put another one on and made no difference.

BUT NOW ive just realised the only things getting power in the entire car, are the headlights and red dash lights... Nothing else works at all , which is why i believe the starter wont be working.

Battery is definately good. but im not sure about the earth coming from the terminal.... theres only one and it goes straight to the motor.. i thought one was meant to go from battery to chassis as well? there is one from engine to chassis too.but buggered if i know if that could be a problem.

Or is there a relay or anything for the positive terminal wires??

cheers

undo the earth's you have and give them and the block/chassis a rub with sandpaper untill shiny.

To eliminate starter jumper leads to starter and block, see if it starts off the key. If not, leave jumper leads in place and jump from main power to starter to the starter sdolenoid.
