C56 GEARBOX PROBLEMS - TERMINAL?

Postby B1NZ » Wed Nov 15, 2006 5:16 pm

My Ae111 has a C56 gearbox, Now last weekend I was in one of my little moods and the little bugger wouldn't go into reverse gear, so I had a brain explosion and rather than put it in 1st and drive forward a little bit then try it I thought (or didn't) it just needed a bit more pressure (read:smack)

So I lost all gears for a little while then remarkably they have all returned, Only problem is that 2nd, 4th and reverse now feel a little funny, like they go in but not as far as they used to.

Revhead seemed to think it may be frayed.stretched selector cables? but ?He also thinks Goats are acceptable to have sex with. I'm thinking the pivot plastic bit under the gearstick or something in the gearbox, So anyone else had a similar problem? What was the outcome, Any Ideas what it could be?

I really like this box as it is the "C" version with the LSD in it so if i can i will get it fixed depending on price

firstly, revhead sounds a bit strange, Goats? I suppose were all aloud our own opinions, anyway back to the topic at hand, being a toyota mechanic I would definately start at the cables or gearshift mounting, does sound a bit strange that the gears misteriously reappeared though. Did any thing change in between having nothing at then reappearing?

had a similar problem in a ford escort once upon a time, gear stick turned to be hooked around handbrake cable or something wacky

There both on the down movment so reverse prolly has the problem to but you dont notice it when stoped, if it was streached it would mean the leaver cant pull the cables to get it fully into gear.

what about trying one person holding it in 2nd or 4th and another pilling the selector to check movment till its fully in gear.
