Gearbox Face Gaskets.

Postby Quint » Thu Nov 16, 2006 12:45 pm

About to re-assemble my gearbox, but i've got to the final stages of its rebuild and i'm unsure what to do. there is a a thin paper gasket on the face of the gearbox, toyota says there is No gasket listed for it, so i'm unsure wether there is or isn't, or if there even is supposed to be one there!

Should i just clean up the gasket and stick some gasket goo on it and torque the face back onto it? Or what? completely unsure as what to do, as of yet iu have been VERY careful not to damage it (as i said toyota said they don't have one listed :/) I'm even keeping solvents away from it, hence its messy appearance :)[/u]

Just use the black toyota sealer or the grey loctite silicone which is the same stuff. both set alot harder than normal silicone.

both sealants are used without gaskets on 4a sumps and nissan ga14 timing covers etc, we use this sh*t all the time without gaskets and have no problems at all.
