1983 Trueno Ae86 ( project), 92 HSV Clubbie. 2000 Fielder wagon
Many previously owned projects: 94 Hilux 4WD, 92 VP SS commodore, AE85 notchback, Ae85 rolling shell, Ke35 sr coupe, EP82 turb starlet

No he doesn't. You have any idea what a mess that would be not to mention how much scrolling you would have to do to get around this forum? :?

I think this suggestion has been run before and for one reason or another it was deemed unsuitable.

Certainly will be taken back on board again, but IMO i think you will find the "multimedia " area seems to take care of your idea, Thats where my project is, and to date its had some 6000 odd veiws so it cant be said its not seen beacuse its not in a highlighted area.

I thought that was what the Blakjack profiles was to be used for?

Does anyone use those anymore?

You can't really do a big write up with all the pictures of your project with that profile site...
AFAIK it's still disabled as well for new sign ups?

A seperate area for projects would be good.

Multimedia can get inundated with shit and it takes a fair bit of commitment to keep your thread up there.

What if each project thread is linked in a sticky in the FAQ section making them easier to find?

FAQ is the one place we have on the board so far that is clean and only contains the information you need so I'd say lets not stuff that up.

If you create a separate section like Multimedia just for projects you are going to have just as hard a time trying to keep it up top as everyone else will putting their projects in there as well.

Also what is to keep people from spamming it up like they do everything else? That'll be the main problem as with anything else really... give someone an inch and they try and take the whole rope.

Maybe a seperate site is required, if I had more than 50 megs of space I would have a go but I need that for my owned pics  :o

Yea I can see that having potential if you have a completely separate HTML format site using a template for the profiles etc so it all has the same look and feel.

Problem with that is that you would need allot of extra bandwidth, webspace, administration. Admin is easy as I'm sure allot of people would be keen to help out including me but the bandwidth and webspace will add extra strain on the costs to keep this place running.

Agreed there is no way you could get enough information in that small space & that page wasn't really designed with that in mind, IMO its more of a "highlight" your ride space / page

Yes and no on the first comment, i can see where you are coming from with that but if you are making regular progress with regular updates then "having it at the top" negates that.

On the spamming of such a thread the simple way to tackle that is adopt the attitude of only allowing the author to post in it, yes i do agree there would be more admin type work involved because of that, removing posts that dont belong there & if thats the case then hell let me do it, I could quite happily delete unwanted posts for it.

I do see merit in what Pies has said and there is probably a project or 5 sitting out there that would trigger off thoughts that others could use / adopt etc and there are probably tons of others that some of us will never even hear about.

Yes to a certain degree it dose take care of it, but like chickenman pointed out, it dose take a fair bit to find stuff in there if its buried in amongst what is most of the time just off topic stuff with pics or clips.

If a projects section was added and maintained like the FAQ section then its all there in one place, nice clean and simple, would give users the ability to see ALL the projects at one glance and work their way through them.

btw....was just extending my thoughts on what you guys said :)

Well as I more or less said in the other thread....

The key to a good forum IMO is in encouraging users to generate interesting content, rather than reacting to/commenting on external events. For example, threads like "Zomg chekc out dis youtube!" or (Insert controversial and stupid stuff.co.nz story here and comment on it) threads. There's no reason to specifically come to TS to check out threads like that, you can find them on any forum.
It's just different people moaning, same shit different forum.

I think a projects section is a good idea, there's too much other random stuff floating around in multimedia.
One of my favourite things about car forums is the build diaries etc, it can sometimes show you that it's not all that hard, and can IMO perhaps encourage other people to give things a go too.

There tends to be 'project diary' type posts floating over all sections of the forum at times, it would be good to have a specific place to put them.

seeing as how this is a car based forum, mostly filled with people who modify their cars to some extent (or want to, but cant afford to), it seems stupid NOT to have a projects section IMO.

Encouraging specific user based content generation = good and makes the forum interesting
Not doing that, and having most threads based on external sources = Same shit different forum.

As has been said, it works great on other forums, and is IMO something that any self respecting car based forum should have.

i agree.

it should be dedicated to the project, with the owner posting and the only other input being advice, or maybe questions on how things were done.
any "looks sweet bro" type post should deleted.
basicly keep it on topic and keep it spam and bs free.

it will need to be policed reasonably strongly, which i dont see as a problem. however if the current mod team feel the ycant keep up with it, im quite happy to volenteer to keep an eye on it

If this is a go ahead, I'd be keen to sponser the site for bandwidth and space. http://www.jetpack.co.nz I own that, so thats no problem at all.

If so, get the mods etc to PM me, (blackjak and that).

are you able to set it so the original poster can moderate their thread?? if you could selectively delete the crap from your thread that would keep it tidy.
When in doubt, down and out.

Theres some merit in this, but agreed that doing it on the forums requires a lot of moderation to keep the spam count down.

The Garage system (meant to replace the profiles) would track your vehicles current status, but wouldnt be a very good place to document detailed work done, etc.

I personally am open to an alternative, but theres some legwork required in making a professional looking UI....

The mods are actively discussing this entire situ at present, so if people have opinions, nows the time to post em up...

Ciao
