Removing an axle

My new diff showed up last week but i'm having a prick of a time trying to get one of the axles out It's a solid F series LSD from a Liteace van. I was able to pull the first one out easily by hand but the second one won't budge at all. I don't have a slide hammer. Is there anything inside the diff head that separates the two axles? ie can I put something in from the other end and try to drive it out?

there is a pinion at the diff centre that will stop you from putting anything in from the other side and pushing it out.

Of course there is. What a ham Any good ideas for getting the thing out?

bigger slide hammer? if all else fails heat does the trick but bearing will be stuffed after that

Take 2 crowbars and apply an equal amount of upwards force from opposite sides of the half shaft. It should pop up and then you should be able to just slide it out.

If you have a long handled sledge hammer or similar, heavy end down , tie it to the axle and make like a golf putting stroke, should pop the axle right out, always worked on the old Valiants
