funny rattle noise

Postby deaf_rattle » Sat Dec 02, 2006 9:23 am

AE92 fxgt with silvertop 20v

you get the rattle when you back off the accelerator, but mostly only in 1st, 2nd and 3rd (no noise in the higher gears)
really bad in reverse

its not the engine (free reving and flooring it there is no noise)

The sound sounds like its coming from the front left (replaced cv about 6 months go)

Would the inner cv make noises like that?

i have tried rocking the engine as i thought it might be the rear engine mount, but the engine is as solid as a rock.

Will get under the car today, and see what i can find.

The other thing i thought, is maybe the gearbox is on its way out? does that sound possible?

any thoughts would be great

cheers

Could just be the sway bar mount bushes getting old, they can click and clunk and when you jack up the car, the suspension drops pulling them tight so you don't notice.

Though doesn't really explain why its worse in reverse >_<

Nzcelica's Corolla 2 on here has some $&#$% weird noises when you reverse.

Perfectly fine car, just that noise... no clue what it is lol

I think it is the gearbox. Normal with heavy duty cluchtes with hard center springs or no sprigs.

im starting to think its the inner cv joint.
What symptoms would you have if your inner cv joint was on its way out?
