Hey,

Nearly finshed off my KE70 4AG-20v conversion in my daily, didnt want cut a hole in the firewall and wanted to run standard ECU so decided to mod standard ECU to make it DLI (waste spark)

Using mitsi waste spark coils, they seem to have similar resistance and inductance to the toyota coil, but I need another igniter.

Thought I would just get another 20v one out of AE101 but none are available at the moment, but there is heaps of 3S's and V6's but they use a igniter with different number (AE101 has 201 printed on it).

So the question is does anyone know the differences between the igniters used on the different engines?

I might just grab a couple of igniters off a corona and see how that works out, but would prefer info instead of trial and error...

I am also making a mod to standard ECU to make it MAP from AFM, will post info on this once i get it going...

Would be really keen to see how you did that to a standard ecu?
I thought they only had one ign output?

It does. As such very confused as to how it drives two coils.

it is very easy, it multiplexes the ignitor ;)
It has got 2 lines controlling the ingitor (and coils) -> 1 normal non DLI signal other line is "coil select", it is possible to emulate it with a flip flop circuit...

Pretty sure they only have IGT and IGF,

which is IGT to fire the coil and IGF is the feedback to say it has fired,

No igf signal and you get the ingiter fault code, limp mode, and the CEL on.

Yeah I use the NE and G2 signals to determine the crank position, then just capture events on the IGT signal inside ECU and since I know crank position I know which coil the IGT signal should be sent to.

And for the IGf signals I just use a simple discrete circuit that OR's the signals together...

Don’t think anyone is gonna know the differences with the igniters so I am goin to pick'a'part today and get some 3S igniters and test them on the bench tonight hopefully they drive the coils as well as the 20v igniter does...

FYI I have mounted a PIC uP inside the standard ECU and cut traces to intercept the signals I need to modify/create that is how it drives two coils…

Should have it firing on the bench tonight :)

Finally some one doing stuff wich micros :) I though I was only one... Although I use Atmel stuff ;)....
