Enkei RP01: Fixed, still looking, now with questions!

Last week I got a flat tyre. I took it to Beaurepaires. I figured later that this would/should have been the obvious culprit…

But alas, I had slightly larger problem to contend with…

The guy didn’t even bother looking at the nail (truth be told I didn’t even notice it until the next day)- took one look at the crack, said it’s buggered and was handing me the catalogues to buy a new set of mags before he even finished his sentence ($&#$%! $&#$%!).

Well, rang around, looked on trademe, nothing...

I'm taking it to Rimrite over the weekend- I’m (naively?) hopeful it can be repaired, even more hopeful it will keep until I can source a replacement (or two- get a heir and a spare! lol)…

So, erm, anyone got a white 16” Enkei RP-01(?) lying around? :D

I’m assuming it’s an RP01 since the pics of the RP02 I’ve seen seem to be adaptable to fit different cars… Oh, and it's 16", with 205/50/R16 tyres, for a Toyota Curren
(ST 206, with 5 x 100 hubs).

Any help I can get with this would be much appreciated! Cheers!

that can be fixed, i had a larger. much worse crack on a volk 3pce wheel, got it fixed for like $49

You have 5x100 16" RP01s with 205/50/16 Direzza's? Stalker!! :lol: :lol: What width are they out of pure interest?

And i dont see why that crack couldnt be fixed, i had some old white 16's, which must of had a big gauge in the inside, and it was still fixed! Was a nice weld too.

Believe it or not, if I had the cash (and by that I mean more money than sense! lol) I was gonna have my Curren converted to 4wd, using GT 4 running gear! :roll: :lol: Great looking ride by the way- always liked the 185 GT4's!

Now don't quote me on this, but I think they are 7" thick- makes no sense to me since tyre is 8", but I got the specs off the net (yeah, dangerous I know!). Having said that, it's in the boot, so I can measure it tomorrow.

So erm, you had some old white 16's... erm, you still have any by any chance?! :D

Seriously, I reckon Rimrite's should be able to sort it out, but it would be nice to have another as a spare- would be a lot easier for me as I'm off to Hawkes Bay tomorrow- have to buy another bloody wheel to replace the space saver I have on at the mo! lol

Mine are 8" wide, but only have a 205..haha. Could have much wider if i wished.

Unfortunately my old wheels were 4 stud! I do have a set of 14" black wheels for sale tho :lol:

I seriously dont see how they wouldnt be able to fix that crack tho, technology is great these days!

Yeah, My Enkei RS7's cracked in two places, got them fixed, and they cracked again in 2 days, so sent them back and they fixed it properly the second time, havnt cracked again..

Get it repaired. Simple. And due to its location you wouldnt need to get the wheel repainted or whatever. Shouldnt be any more than $100

Well, took them in today, and what a $&#$% mission it was too! Rimrites said for me to call 'em Sunday afternoon so that they could tell me when/where I could drop the wheel off. I call at 2:30, and it answers- then hangs up. A few dozen calls later (yeah, because I learn from my mistakes! :lol: ), and I give up and figure $&#$% it, I'll go anyway and see if I can find 'em. Two runs up and down the street later, I finally blag it and ask at a local shop, who give me vague directions.

So, I get there, they have no idea as to why I'm there at 6pm on a Sunday evening (Dont ask, by now neither did I), I explain as best I could (two days of partying and driving- pretty tired by this point), and the guy opens up the shop. I show him the alloy, and his first words are "has this been repaired recently?" and "is that powercoating? Could be a problem...".

Gulp.

Well, they were resprayed earlier on this year. Powdercoating? No idea? For ten points, what are the implications of this?

[Now crosses fingers, hoping powdercoating is not that did a deal, and if it is, that the wheels aren't powdercoated! :( ]

Hah, its a bit tricky to find eh? Easy enough if you know, but if you've never been there before you'll drive past it several times without knowing :lol:

Went into Driving Sounds in Wellie today- much more positive about finding me one, since everyone else so far has said buy another set. Whether they'll find one though...

Honestly go to a proper place that fixes wheels, all it needs is the crack welded up 8O We have Elite wheels down there and I'm sure they have fixed a lot worse than that. And why is powdercoating a problem? Aren't they aware of an invention called the grinder :P

aesc, I took it into Rimrites, as I said in my earlier post- it just took me a while to find them, is all! :oops: :lol:

Thing is, what if it cracks again (nil points to the guy who says 'so repair it again"!), and space savers are crap- yeah, I got a full size spare now, but I figure a spare mag will always come in handy...

As for powdercoating, not a clue as to why it would be a problem, which is why I asked! :D

Got the call this morning- wheel's been fixed! Yay! Apparently their phones were out for three days- did not receive any calls. Boy, the guy did not sound happy about it... gotta love telecom! lol

Well, I should get it back by Tuesday-ish- no idea how much yet (ulp!), but in the meantime, a spare would be good, so, well, keep looking! :D

Well, it's been repaired- yay! It cost $159- $&#$%! 8O Oh well, better than a new set of mags I guess...

But now, I have questions:

1. what is the effect of powdercoating wheels? I mean, does it weaken them, or make them harder to repair?

Well it's more of a sealer, Room Temeperature Vulcansing what it stands for. It's used to seal things like gaskets (rocker covers, cam covers, sumps ) etc. And no Mr Bling it wouldn't have worked :lol:
