carrying on from this topic, what would be a good choice for a turbo on a silvertop running 8.9:1, street use

ideally full boost at around 3500rpm
dont care if it runs out of puff after say 7800rpm

so far suggestions have been vf24 and tdo5h

what kinda reasonable prices would one be looking at for these
and can someone confirm what do they come off of (vf24 subie sti?, tdo5h evo?)

any other suggestions/discussion?

Im running a GT28 on my 20v setup and that hits 7psi around 3600rpm and then 20psi just around 5000rpm all he way to 7200rpm but i still have the std cam profile which doe'snt help he lag so hoping to get the spool time abit quicker with a cam grind.

Ball Bearing is the way to go if you got he cash, but i would recommend getting a Good quality one eg:Garrett, not some cheap chinise copy.

vf24 = V4 wrx sti , approx $550-650 2nd hand $1100 new. dont trust a 2nd hand one tho as the bearings seem to be sensitive to abuse. response firsthand is 15psi@4000rpm on 8:1 , so probly lose a few rpm for 8.9. dont know where the difficult to setup comment came from , it works exactly the same as any other turbo cept different flange. i dont currently run watercooling but thats just a choice.

tdo5 - small16g wheel off evo 1 and evo2
tdo5 - big 16g wheel off late evo2 and evo3
tdo5 - all sorts of flavours of e4-9
tdo5 - 14b wheel , e39a vr4
tdo5 - small 16g off wrx, different 3bolt flange same as vf series

go a big 16 g can be found on TM for 500ish and are stupidly reliable, can handle up to 25psi boost. or go a wrx tdo5 and you can swap back to vf series at a later date as the flanges are the same.

one option is to get a turbo with 3bolt subaru turbo flange then you can chop and change on the same manifold between td and vf series turbos.

or a t3/t4 bazda special , he seems to get good response out of his smaller ones and you can get almost any combo trim so you can tailor make your response-power compromise.

basically its hard to garantee youll be happy with your first choice so try choose a turbo flange that gives you options to change sizing with minimal modifications later on.

good turbo choices listed. T3/t4s are inexpensive & so versatile.
Certainly don't need/won't mi$$ 'ballbearing'.

Garret better watch out, these $200 chinese turbos seem to be holding up. The landscape will change, just as it did with intercoolers imo.
Hell, it could even be garret liscencing the cheapies to prevent anybody else from knocking their legs from out underneath them.
Spearco must have spotted the chinese intercoolers coming over the horizon when it 'dumped its load' on Turbonetics. lol :)

I have a few turbos that would suit a 4age application.

Next week I'm picking up a shipment of T3/T4 turbos, some are with actuator, others will need a external wastegate.
Also have GT28's in stock.
ALl of them are brand new.
I'll also have a t28 off my silvia forsale soon. My cars done 110k's, and has a turbo timer, turbo has never had any issues, just upgrading to a GT28.

The t3/t4's will be around the $600 - $700 mark
The GT28's are $1600
The 2nd hand t28 will be $400 ish

I'll also have wastegates if you need one as well.
