crazy 4age noises

hey I am trying to get this bigport 16v 4age running. i have spark and fuel but the engine wont run. I get these crazy plopping noises tho which are very strange. I will put some extractors on tomorrow but I don't know if is the problem.

has anyone come across this before? it wouldn't be caused by having no back pressure from the exhaust would it?

Doubt it as we have had 4AGE's running on std ECU no worries with just the first part of the manifold and no more.

ok, I dont know why they would have ever been taken off but i will check that. what would that prove? excuse my ignorance, but arent they just round?

He's talking about cam timing. Ensure the timing marks on the cam gears align correctly. The other possibility is that if you have had the dizzy out it may be a tooth or more out. You'll want to check ign timing.

check your leads are on the right plugs, check your distributor timing, check your cam timing.

My brother had the same thing... leads out of order.

i have checked the fire order is right. I will check the timing

so what would the noises be? something to do with the valves opening at the wrong time???

Where are those flames coming from? The video is so dark I cant even tell the engine orentiation.

As stated still looks to be either cam timing or more likely ign timing.

Nah I actually meant make sure the cam gears are on the shafts the correct way. I once had a 4age with the inlet cam gear 180degrees out so that when it was timed up to the correct timing marks the camshaft was out by 180degrees and it sounded exactly the same and had flames out the exhaust like that. Wouldn't be the same problem if you haven't had the cam gears off tho.

yep it definitely sounds like the timing. make sure that is all sweet, and if it still doesnt go chuck some extractors on. that sounds really simlar to my engine when I tried starting it with no exhaust manifold at all on...and it wouldnt really run properly iirc.
