help.... st162 not starting

Postby tractionfree » Tue Dec 12, 2006 5:32 pm

hi, all she's doing is cranking over. i bought the car not going and put a new engine in... can someone tell me the order that the injector plugs go in? theres 2 pink ones and 2 white ones (??) and im guessing the blue ones go to some sort of EGR stuff on the back of the block, and the black one goes to something that looks like a 5th injectors? sorry im sort of putting the car together as i go. im getting spark but its kind of weak. i have a constant 12v signal from the injector plugs, im guessing tha they are regulated by getting an earth signal when its time to fire, but i dont seem to be getting one when the engine is cranking.

phew i hope some of that made sense, someone had butchered most of the wiring so im trying to put it back together as best i can. cheers

For ST162 it should not mater which order injectors are connected - they all fire the same time. The black plug is most likely for cold start injector.
When you cranck over 1) check for spark (pull one lead out) 2) check for fuel (your car should have resonator on the fuel rail - looks like a pressure regulator but has a small screw on the top - it should stick out about 3-4mm if there is fuel pressure).
When you turn on ignition - is there engine check light on?
When you crank and if you don't get spark check if you have proper earthing (especially in earth wire in the are of the injectors/manifold), then check if the distributor is spinning (remove distributor cap and have a look while cranking).
If you don't have fuel check if there is the power going to fuel pump (by measuring voltage on FP terminal in diagonstics plug - should be 12v while cranking), or bypass fuel pump relay by applying 12v to FP terminal (you should hear fuel pump hissing/whning).

theres definately fuel pressure - i loosened the line off the fuel filter and cranked it. cant find any screw on the fuel rail... theres a screwlike thing on the inlet manifold but everything its hooked up to is water lines, so im guessing its a radiator bleed? the engine might be from a later model celica, im not sure.

so what is the stuff on the back side of the block? theres two blue injector-syle plugs, an actuator looking thing, and a whole bunch of little vacuum tubes... im guessing its all EGR so i didnt bother with it

spark does seem to be a little bit weak. theres a white plug near the firewall on the passenger side that i cant find a home for, i traced it through the loom to a similar white plug that plugs into a big bolt on the gearbox.. any ideas?

well i got it running, turned out to just have a massively corroded dizzy cap and rotor.. never seen a car not actually even fire because of that before!

....and then it dropped a cylinder, started pouring white smoke out the back, then the starter motor fused and boiled the rubber off its loom
