Gearbox Q's

Postby TRD_ZERO » Sat Dec 16, 2006 2:03 pm

Ive been looking to replace my gearbox but its been a hard job trying to find a c56 one. My synchros have gone in second and third im wanting to maybe take a few days off and replace them myself. How do i go about doing this? IM after a manual of the c series box so i might have some idea of what to do. Where do i get replacement synchros? what other bits should i maybe replace since its off. Is it a really tough job or managable?

All constructive input appreciated thanks.

really depends how competent you are with a spanner and dismantling and reassembloing gearboxes. You can get workshop manual but you'll need circlip pliers, probably a press to get some bearings off the shafts if you'll be replacing bearings (most reccommended) and ask revhead about synchros
If you don't think you can do it , try trademe for gearboxes

removing the box, and puling it apart you should be able to tackle, but pressing the gears off and on to replace the syncros isnt going to hapen unless you can use a press.....

Removing 5th gear verys abit in the c56 but pritty much the same

Shouldn't be too much hassle getting a workshop manual as most have c52/ c56 strip down and rebuild covered in the manual, but as acesniper said you'll need a press to help you pull it apart properly
