NZKW bucket race seats, opinion/experiences?

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Sun Dec 17, 2006 9:28 pm

I noticed an ad in a mag a while ago and they seem VERY cheap.

Has anyone tried them?

Are they as nasty as they are cheap?

Would they suit a club car? ( im guess they would be far from FIA approved).

I installed some in a mates Evo this weekend. Nothing wrong with the seats.Easy mounting and they come with rails.

They were a bit narrow for me tho, but them I am 6ft.

Do yourself a favour. Spend a little bit more to preserve your life. Buy some Racetech seats.

i have looked in to them, i wouldnt touch them, cheap build quality and cheap material used to cover them, but hey thats what you get for that sort of $

save your self some hassle and get something second hand thats decent, or just save up for some decent seats
Nothing to see here ...

Hmm general opinion is cheap = nasty.

And according to those guys on the silvia forum, they sit quite high which is a problem for me since I'm 6 foot and with a helmet that can cause head room problems.

Guess the wallet will have to be opened a bit wider

ae85 is an issue if you want to use rails with it .. as the ae85/6 has really high lateral rails where the standard seats mount ..

Nick Teeboon uses NZkw seats in his Track only car and they are fine !

Cheers but they will be for my ae92, I'll have to compare the rail height between my 86 and 92 to get an idea then.

Ive got them in my race car, and havnt had any probs with them.

Although Im about 70kgs and theyre a perfect fit. ie made for smaller people!

My mates that 6" 90kg can only just fit in and looks a bit big for the seat.

Well the guys at Racetech reckon that Jamex seats don't stand up well in a crash at all. I imagine that NZKW wouldn't either.

If you were seriously trackracing, I would get something FIA approved (eg, Racetech)

I always say "how hard would I kick myself while I'm lying in hospital, thinking "wow, if I had only spent a bit more on my safety gear"".
Even as a passenger on a trackday I will wear all my racegear: suit, gloves, socks, raceboots, balaclava, helmet, neckbrace...

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

even the carbon/kevlar autosports, that WERE FIA approved, used to break in a half decent impact. so how do you rate your chances with cheap seats??

i bought Racetech 100s ( purely because i was on a budget), not FIA approved, but made by a trusted manufacturer. their new base model ( 1000) is only around the $500+ mark and are FIA.

what is a Jamex/ Racepro etc seat worth?

even the comfort level is totally different. sit in a racepro, or other $400-600 race seat, then get in something around $1000. I thought all race seats were uncomfortable until I forked out the $$$$ and got a racetech RT4000W, I'm 1.93m and 90kg, and the racetech seriously fits me like a glove, its soo comfortable and supportive in all the right places.

I think I am going to have to try out a few seats, I know the guys at the local supplier (Road & Track).

I think I will most likely get a minimum $500 one, it doesn't need to be FIA approved because I only intend to do clubdays and such for a bit of fun. Nothing too serious.

My dad bought a Racetech one, I think they are made locally actually? It was around $1100 I think, so must be a pretty good seat. I'll have to compare that too some $500 jobbies.

refer "Why the FIA withdrew the homologation on the Autosport seats".

They weren't FIA homologated for all that long, the seats were retested, blew apart in testing, and had the homologation immediately withdrawn.
