4age main and conrod bearing Q?

Postby samham » Mon Dec 18, 2006 8:50 pm

Hey,

Im about to get the bearings for my smallport rebuild, and would like some advice from people who have been there done that.

I have mesured and come up with this:

conrod journals 41.99
Conrod: 45.01

main journals 47.99
main 52.01

so then say 52.01-47.99= 4.02- oil clearance then divide by 2
45.01-41.99= 3.02 " " " " "

is that right to get bearing size to order?

Clearances for oil I found are main=0.015-0.033
conrod=0.020-0.050 seems such a small gap, the slightest mistake in mesuring amd youd have no gap!

so using those the bearings I came up with are:

main= 1.9935
conrod=1.485

Is that right? Are thesen standard toyota sizes? Or good to order from repco etc.

Cheers for help samham

Haha, that is true!

Im building the engine for my dedicated 1600 class, race car. High-ish compression N/A, high revs etc.

I mesured with a micrometer and telescope gauge, found the micrometer fine for crank, but using the gauge on the caps was a B@%CH.

I use mesurig gear for my job and still found it a complete hassle, I need to invent some sort of "LASER BEAM" device to mesure up.

all help appreciated.

I got those clearnces of a random site on the net so.. yeah they could be dodgy, would be wonderful if they could be confirmed.

Ive heard that you should get bearings with the groove right around instead of just half???

Do the trd have this?

cheers samham
