Exhaust system 1JZ-GTE any opinion welcome...

Postby trd-drifting » Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:56 pm

OK I have done a search and all i can find is info on exhausts on 4 cylinders.

Now i want evryone's opinons as i am about to make my exhaust for my 1jz in my mkiii supra. I am thinking 3" I am after performance but dont want it to sound like sh*t, it has to sound deep and good to (aren't i fussy) ie: does not sound like a honda or tinny etc... But needs to be close to road legal. As for exhaust tips go i have always like the the 4" dytech dumpy's.
What would they sound like behind a 1jz.. ??
What Mufflers should i use and stay away from...?
What a people personal experiance with 6 cylinders (jz's) with what sound the best etc...?
I have talked to a few people in a muffler shop and i found them all narrow minded but maybe they are right as that what they do every day.

Can any one tell me where to get the tube from and pipe for a good price in the hamilton region. Always could get the mufflers/resonators posted if any one knows where to get good qualitly stuff for good prices... and i could be after a dytech dumpy exhaust tip.

Any opinions will be appreciated

Sorry about the grammar believe it i do try..

3" seems the norm for a 1jz check out http://www.toyotacressida.net or the supra forums for alot more 1jz exhaust tech instead of just 20v stuff :D,as for mufflers my cousin on her 2jz has 3" with two coby style resonators and a bling straight through stainless cannon thing and it sounds real nice not to loud. but now hits the boost cut :(

if you dont want it to be too loud, ie, within WOF limits, dont be one of those boy racer dick's who puts an oversized exhuast tip on it. if it has 3 inch piping, use a 3 inch tip, I've never been able to figure out why dipshits put oversized exhuast tips on their cars, the only thing they achieve is NOISE.

Don't want to be a boy racer far from it.. but i was just saying i like the style of they dytech dump pipe exhaust tip 3" inlet and 4" outlet /dumpy. I dont want just a piece of pipe poking out the rear of the car. I dont know but would like to take it around the track so most likely with the mufflers will weld on flanges so they can bolt in and out. But honsetly who knows at this stage. I really want to know what brands of mufflers to stay away from and go with.

:D :D :D

i've got a 3" mandrel bent exhaust from the end of the factory downpipe back, it has 1 big resonator and a flowmaster style muffler on the end with 3" tip. exhaust note is nice and deep, but its kinda loud (more resonators would solve that)

the exhuast on my 2JZGE Surf consists of approx 120cm of 2 inch coming off each factory exhaust manifold then collecting into single 3 inch, where it goes thru one 3 inch straight thru 'ultra tuff' 'rotary spec' muffled (stainless packed) then exits out the back, gives a nice note and sounds great on the rev limiter - ask anyone who goes to Baypark speedway hehe

I have a y-pipe back 3" mandrel system, with 2x coby resonators and some form of rear muffler (offset not straight thru) it sounds nice, the resonators drop the noise level but also take out the nice note.

when i got the car it had the 3" with a single rear muffler. it was $&#$% loud and drony. couldnt have the windows down or you would get a headache.
put in first resonator, made it quieter but i think it lost more of the note.

got a bit sick of the drone so put in another resonator, lost more volume and note, and the nice burble when comming off gas/gear change.

as its all one peice with no flanges and the fact that its gettin a bit rusty ill replace it in the next year or so, not sure what with, i think twin side pipes would rock muchly!

Are you upgrading your exhaust now "Si". Just curious why do you have the box off in the second pic.. If you are upgrading you exhaust what sort of mufflers are you going to use and for what use ie: street use i presume or track...

......................................Since everyone downs my idea of having a dumpy tip, i mite tip the exhaust down so you cant see it (from behind if that is legal) after the diff. As i dont like a shiny piece of pipe poking out of my car, What do you think of that... or any other ideas just for a tip.........................................
