C52 Gearbox...spline will turn but not the stubs?

Postby no_8wire » Wed Dec 20, 2006 10:54 pm

Ok, so I took apart the gearbox so I could change the bell housing from a one hump to twin hump...

now the first time I put it back together I messed up the direction of the reverse shaft and so couldnt get the lockbolt in, so I stripped it down again, fixed that and now I have this problem.

When ever I try to turn the axles stubs, I cant. However you can still turn the spline that comes out to meet the clutch.

Any ideas on what to look for when I take it apart again?

Yes when I change the gear, in some of them it will turn, but is difficult. How ever the stubs still dont move

Well I suppose I will find out when its apart tomorrow anyway...

look around your floor for 2 small ball bearings. they go in the selector shafts. without them the box will lock up.

you do get different sized bearings
dependant on box modle
you also have thrust washers to setup the preload

perhaps a transmission specailist is your best bet :D

no toyota box i have seen has different size bearings available. and definitly not the c series.
i guess you could have gotten aftermarket ones that are incorrect size.
