front wheel bearing ST190 corona.

Postby rxtoy » Thu Dec 21, 2006 5:36 pm

was changing my pads due to squealing sounds and brakes getting hot, wheel is pretty wobbly up and down. i bought a new wheel bearing and tried getting hold of a manual but neither the local repco or supercheap had one available.

i've done wheel bearings before but this one looks pretty different and because i've got no spare car i just want to make sure i've got everything there for the change before i get into it.

any tips and tricks and will i need a press to get the old one out/new one in.

also if anybody has a manual and can email me a copy of the relevant pages that would be awesome (or even the celica ones from the same year, i'm pretty sure they are the same.

cheers
Matt

RA28 celica (with corona front struts),
mitsubishi 1981 EX lancer,

nothing new or FWD so far

been talking to a mate and it sounds like i need to press the bearing out and since i'm not going to have access to a press before xmas and i need the car i'm going to get a hub from pick a part and swap that in. will mean i can use the car and swap the new bearing into my original hub once i get a chance too.

cheers

swapped in one from pick a part, had to buy the CV joint with it because couldn't undo it (other side just kept turning).

now i've got more problems, when i took the old hub out the shock dropped out, turns out the bearing at the top of that has collapsed as well.

looks like i might be staying in Auckland for Xmas :(

anyone got a strut top they want to sell?????

cheers,
Matt

if you got a new bearing an brought the hub into a shop it costs all of $20 for them to press a new one in, but sometimes the center flange is stuffed from the run bearing

i'm not worried about the cost, or even about doing it. i just needed the car ready for driving on xmas day and i'm working saturday and sunday so no chance to do it then. i can get it pressed out at work next year, just the workshops are closed up at the moment.

cheers
