Apples for apples mate. Although, a GTR not a performance car? And you'd consider a MR2 a performance car? If we were to get say, 1000 car enthusiasts, who all knew what an MR2 and GTR were, and asked them which they would consider to be more of a "performance car".. which way do you think that would go?

The AE101 is a great car for what it is.. but remember its only a highly developed 1.6! In regards to getting more power from it, Revhead hit it bang on, something he generally does with goats. Follow his pointers, it'll certainly earn you a little additional power (even though butt dyno tells you different as your torque curve will be flatter and sound will be down)

The thing is a 20v levin may not be as fun as the skidline but i bet your pocket , and demerit points will love you for making the move , and reliability you can't beat that

Reliability in a 20V, whats that? When I got rid of mine it had 126kms on the clock, and the things wrong with it were PS didnt work when cold, was jerky as $&#$% and hesitant when cold, used shit loads of oil and smoked. 4th gear snycro was stuffed!

silvertop isnt going to make much more power than it already does. The best way to go faster in an ae101 is get some good sticky tyres and reduce weight.

The only way people make decent power figures (200kw+) out of these engines is with turbos, but that costs a lot of money

My skylines have been far more reliable, in fact, I can't even remember any problems other than having to replace a coil or two. I won't even begin to list my Toyota problems, both fwd and rwd.. but suffice to say, I've owned 15+ Toyotas and about the same in Nissans, and all Nissans have been FAR more reliable and able to handle the thrash much better than Toyotas.

Yeah.. demerit points.. I'll have to agree! But thats' more of a driver issue than a manufacturer issue.

i remember reading a small comment about the SW20 that was written when it was first released.

it was bagged alot because of its so called twitchy nature, and liability to spin easily, but this writer - who was a former F1 driver if memory serves - said this was because most people are used to driving cars that are setup for inherent understeer (and yes, he included RWD cars in that) because thats how they come from the factory.

he went on to say that the MR2 had similar weight distribution and balance as F1 cars, and that it was one of the fastest cars he had driven through twisty roads.

like solitaire said, its all about what you enjoy... kinda like bagging people for their taste in music.

Kinda freaky because of the conversation above BUT:

Ive got skyline wheels on the mr2: 205 front and 225 rear. As a result its handles really nicely, the ass slides a little when you push it but providing you resist the instinct to touch the middle pedal when things get hairy it handles great, heaps of fun to drive.

My mrs did nearly wipe out a civic the first day she drove it though (heavy rain + roundabout + heavy braking). But as has been said... that more of a driver issue... she understands about balance now...
