Hiace Gearbox Q ?

Postby R15 » Mon Dec 25, 2006 12:46 pm

ive got a hiace. it has a slushbox

ive got a parts hiace. it has a manual

my road going hiace has a cable speedo

my parts hiace has a electronic speedo

am i able to unbolt the electronic thingee at the back end of the box and stick the cable drive in there instead?

it appears as tho it will fit

if it wont, i will just give up and deal with the fact that my van is auto

yes you can if they are the same series box altho you may have to change drive gears depending

but rembour if your going auto-manual you may find it very high geared if you keep the autop diff & also if you change the diff you will need to also change the spedo to sute your new diff

so how do i tell if its the same series box?

(ive now realised working on hiaces is a bitch!!)

and is there an easy way of getting to the window wiper pivots as my one is severely worn on the left one, i have one to replace it with off the other van, but i ended up bending and breaking things on the donor to get to it

as for higher gearing, i see that as an advantage as i dont use it for any significant loads really anyway, and first is pretty useless on a manual hiace anyway in standard form

thoes #`s mean nothing to me so you would have to pull out the new & old one & see if you can use bits of each to fit it all in to the new box

G142 = 4.88:1 2 spider single spinner
G282 = 4.3:1 2 spider single spinner
