Hey guys, I got a 94' hatch back nz new corolla 1.6 fuel inj i use as my runabout.. how ever its using around half a litre every 1000km... its not burning it from what i can see and not dropping it!? wres it going does anyone know!? much appreciate ur help!
it definately doesnt drop any i've left it in the garage and it never drops it.. the cars only done 120km tho bought it off an old lady.. it shouldnt be burning any oil should it?
Sounds like it needs a good thrashing. Load it up hard and press those rings against the cylinder walls.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
15w 40 shell oil i used for the last service i think... haha yeah i've given it a good thrashing aye.. when i open it up theres no black smoke like its burning oil...

Thanks for that, but its not doing either.. confused me.. but then again im a plumber not a mechanic but have spoken to alot of people and they cant make sense of it either! especially for a car thats only done 120000km reg serviced etc... my dad has the exact same one and his doesnt use any oil and mine runs way better than his!!
probably owned by some cheap ass asian in Japan (unless its nz new) they dont seem to like changing the oil much so its probably a bit worn (the engine) and oil gets thru and is burnt with the petrol. Most of the problem is when engines cold I think, you may not even notice a slight bit of smoke from the burning oil
I've had quite good luck just using a catch can in my ae92. It's made a big difference to how much oil the engine burns. Install a cheap catch can to remove the water and fuel mist from blowby gasses, they cause the oil to degrade bigtime and makes it much more prone to being burnt up during combustion. So a decent new catch can setup PLUS new oil change should make a difference - oil lasts much longer.
early ecotec commodores would eat litre of oil every 1000km. and was considerd normal from factory....
I once read somewhere that if a vehicle is traveling around town alot (say 500km) then is given an open road burn, traveling at constant pace - no stop start city traffic, it will lose alot of its volum Why? The open road run holds the engine under load at higher revs working the oil. in doing so burns off the contaminants (the biggest is unburnt petrol, condensation) and when the oil is checked again (best to check before you go for the long journy) its lost a litre or so.
