same motor, headgasket went first, i'd probably say the head was considerably weaker after that happened and yeah.. boom? funny thing was, even though the temperature went right into red, car still felt like it was running fine and when i started it a day later, started fine as, not missing or anything ><

buy my spare motor for $70. ill throw in a head gasket. then you have a straight as head. just swap yoru shit into it. you will also have a spare 7 rib block. needs a new bearing or 2 though

Don't think he'll need a whole motor ... just a (smallport) head I would have thought?

My MR2 also killed a head (again) not all that many km's after a head gasket was done. Maybe the heads get soft after they've been cooked.

If you overheat the head it will warp and cause the gasket to lift and stretch the head bolts. Once a head is warped you will want to replace it.

lol why are you guys blowing headgaskets in the 1st place? is their a rad blockage? are your waterpumps buggered? thermistat not working? forgot to put water in the rad before taking it for a burn?

i wouldnt bother finding a new head or repairing one untill i had found and fixed the cause for your problems

fixing one thing sucks, but having to do it again because you havnt fixed the underlying issue sucks more(esp money)

fully agree. In the 10+ years Ive had a 4age of one sort or another Ive never blown a hg. Ive only blown 2 in my years of owning cars(my first car), and as suggested above, the second was from not sorting the problem the first time. I sorted it (was a flogged water pump AND bung radiator lol) and never had the issue again.
