Postby Adydas » Thu Jan 04, 2007 7:37 am

Ill move this shortly to off topic but incase theres any experts out there that would normally ignore that area ill put it here a second.

Found a rather odd spider, and cant find records off it on the Nz Spiders Directory supplyed by MAF / Te Papa Mueseum etc.

Anyone help ID this little bugger

I found a centipede once and it looked to be from another country.
When i was doing some work for DoC, i gave it to the woman i was workking with and they had it identified as a common house hold one... didnt know how common it was as i had never seen on before?!

Take it into DoC and have them have a look at it

And that pic is hardcore! wonder WTF it is :o

Was meant to put a pic up of the thing we found but it on the other comp :(

You'd be suprised at what they call common insects lol..
We opened up a container at work and amongst all the tires was some ugly looking mosquites, bright green with ugly little bits hanging off them.. MAF said they're common in NZ
And i'd never ever seen one before

and that spider is hideous :?

I think I recognise it, I will have a search in my books but I'm not guaranteeing I will find it. It is pretty ugly

I was looking at spider pics today theres some freaky spiders out there :? but I did find this one called a crab spider looks kinda similar in body shape but the color completely different, but apparently they change color to adapted to their hunting terain they use, so I dunno it could be in some way related but it may not be.

its the white one at the bottom of the article

I think you're right, I knew I had seen it somewhere, I couldn't remember the name but that jogged my memory and I looked it up in one of my books, They do look very similar.
