Insurance companies are pathetic. I believe almost anything can be fixed for a price.
Them taking posession of whatever is installed etc in your car if they write it off is seriously wrong too - i wouldn't let them and if they sent the Police or someone around i'd just hide all that stuff (not at my house either).

Aw but...

Its all good, I managed to get the insurance company to send it to the collision centre we use on our street, had a word with him and hinted that I wouldnt be crying if it couldnt be fixed
