Seats too high - Help with brackets

Postby xRyanx » Wed Jan 10, 2007 8:31 am

So to begin with im 6'3. My seats in my bzg, while low enough, are still quite high for me. Im not hitting my head on the roof, but its close.

Also, the fact that with my smaller after market steering wheel, i can no longer see my speedo needle from 40-140kmph, is making me think of ;

A)getting some new seats
B)Possibly modifying my rail so I and the seat sit lower?

Im not after a gangsta lean. I like my seat as upright as possible. If i went aftermarket seats, are these usually lower when on their rails?
Has anyone moddified their BZ rails to have the seat sit lower?

Cheers

Not much of an answer, but,
going aftermarket, depending on brand etc, some (seen both some that do, and others that dont) supplied brackets can even sit you a little higher than standard.
Not a huge amount of room to mod the existing rails. imo, you still want to be able to get your hands under incase you drop your wallet etc. nothing imposible though.
Cant believe im still a member here.

Also watch that if you're seat belts are mounted to the seat (which I think they are on the AE111's) and not the chassis. If you try and go after-market with your seats you will have to re-mount the seat belt stalks somewhere else and then you will require a low-volume cert.

Tell me about it, Iam 6'4 and it doesnt help when you wear a helmet on track days, its even worst in my AE85 my head is nearly at right angles with the race seat on the factory rails and cage in there. I ended up making new mounting points as low as possible. Quite a bit of work.
Have you seen the seat on trade me? I would have a look at it first if you were interested in it.

if you are creative there is a way around it apparently, as the same issue applies with ae101.

Sometimes you can reduce the amount of padding in the cushion foam,best to see a car trimmer/upholsterer.

Yeah I think it has something to do with using the factory bolts and locations of some AE101's that had them mounted to the chassis.
