ke70 q's

Postby Mike- » Tue Jan 09, 2007 9:53 pm

hey, i just bought a ke70 2 door wagon with 4k 5 speed (blown head gasket tho).

just wondering if any other springs will fit this car? like a kp61 starlet maybe?

also any other corolla chrome bumpers that will fit as this ones a bit rusty.

and lastly whats the best way to hide rust from the warrant man, theres a few little bits arnd the door sills but theres a bit of a patch under the boot window sill on the passenger side, i think the last guy tried to patch it but it noticeable now, the paint is bit rough so i dont think they'll notice a patchy spot of paint.

any help appreciated

No, pretty sure they're unique. There are 3 different types of springs too.

Nothing that will bolt straight up.

In the doors and hatch is fine, they're not structural...cheapest way is to grind it right out, rust proof if, then fill it in with poo and sand it smooth. Best way is to cut it out and weld new metal in.

Headgaskets are cheap cheap ;)

ok im on the hunt for some springs to attack then.

not too worried about bolting straight up for the bumper but just want the length right.

already got a spare head gasket i just hope the head isnt rooted!

and the rust im worried about isnt in the hatch but the back side window sill, pretty sure thats structural

Meh, its a 4K...new heads are also cheap

Ah right I follow you. My wagon had some bubbles of rust under the rear windows for ages too, passed at least 2 WOF's with it before I got it fixed.

Hmm, could be an interesting mission trying to find then adapt a new bumper. Would be easier to find a new one, and probably cheaper to fix the old one!

Debumper.

BTW 4K headgaskets are $32 from memory. 2 hour job if you're not going to the trouble of planing the head.

The bumper looks pretty straight, should be able to get it cleaned up and rechromed pretty easily.
If you clean up where the rust has run down the side it wont look that bad. Its in the same place as mine was, and WOF people never mentioned it.

yeh i cant afford rechrome, i found one on trademe for $40, its got no mounts of end caps and surface rust which the seller thinks can be sanded away and then metal polished to look like new again
