blacktop loom > 16v loom

Ok so doing the blacktop conversion, am getting a full loom and ecu to go with it, a guy I know knows a guy ( lol ) that will take my 16v loom and the 20v loom, remove all unnecessary stuff and rewire them together so that everything is easily plugged and put back in, however I feel this might cost a bit

is this going to be the best option in terms of reliabilty in the long run? what problems should I be aware of? also any other problems in general that I should be aware of in this conversion ae92 gt corolla 16v redtop bigport > 20v blacktop

as long as the guy knows what he is doing it shouldnt be an issue.

just my opinion, but talking 'long term' the 20v's seem to start burning oil (valve guides?) earlier than 16v's of same mileage.

time to be concerned with a 20v is when it isnt burning oil. it probly means there isnt any left

my 16vs pretty stuffed now so thats why i'm swapping

headgasket went, fixed that, then waterpump, then thermostat, so its pretty stuffed by now.

i want to stay n/a and i like the blacktop engine in its n/a form, i've heard most 4ages burn a bit of oil anyway?

yeah its just normal running, as long as it isnt shitloads. will burn more the more you rev it too.

Oil cooler somewhat stops it from burning oil that much. Or use thicker oil .

difference between 16v and 20v in epower realy isnt that much.

Yeah the blacktop isnt all that impressive but its still pretty good, ive got an oil cooler and it still loves to burn oil. Once those valve guide seals are gone its just gona keep burining until you replace them.

your clutch wont fit the blacktop flywheel.
get a new blacktop clutch

Me and my friend were planning on attempting most of the mounting and the engine ourselves, he's done a conversion on his car which was an AE111 4AFE to 4AGE blacktop 20v, i'm not that mechanically inclined myself but its mainly the wiring I am worried about. Thought we can maybe just get people to help along the way with the pieces we don't know about.

I've been doing this conversion for a mate over the past two Sundays, Blacktop into AE92 GT Sedan. Basically all is done apart from the wiring, & i've got both the looms spread out in my garage just going through them at the moment. Haven't struck too many issues, just Blacktop headers don't clear the stater motor if you're using AE92 g/box, but no biggy to modify, just gotta trim off a bracket on the bottom. There was a couple of other things, but i just can't think of them right now

Thats the best way to do the loom, take them both apart, remove and add to make the new engine run. Injector plugs could be different, ignitor, ecu plugs, etc. I just add wires required then reuse a lot of them onto the new ecu plug so it will plug into the ecu.

It may be expensive but its the price to get the job done. If you want to do it yourself arm yourself with both wiring diagrams for the two motors and give yourself atleast a full weekend and a large working area.
