It will be a good event but I feel the HKS car without Tetsuya Kawasaki behind the wheel is on a hiding to nothing and I'm expecting the Heat Treatments car to hand the HKS GTR its head.I mean with Andre who to my knowledge has not been behind the wheel of a car like this GTR before I just can't see how the HKS car can beat the Heat Treatments car.

The HKS car is still running on gasoline I think? The heat treatments car is running on Meth...... different kettle of fish.

i dont think the difference would be that much between a ~1400hp docile and a ~1500hp hks gtr. i think they both use similar transmission setups, all he has to do is keep it straight.

Plus I think the GTR would be easier to launch straight, and keep straight. Longer wheelbase, ability to do a burnout with the rears only to get the tyres sticky enough for good traction

yeah plus the guy tunes 300-400-500wkw cars all the time, and often has to road tune them etc id say some of them would be more of a handful than most drag cars. i
i read sumwhere he doing some tuning on it before he races it, my work office is just around the corner from stm, wouldnt it be odd seeing the hks gtr pottering down the road

really wish i could get up to see this, just cant see it happening however. it looks like a once every 5 years event pretty much.

agrred that andre driving it ruins it

a title fight is not just the car its teh guy driving it
drag racing is more about the driver than the car

if andre wins qudos for him but it still just wont be right

and magic juice well....its not cricket

For what its worth it seems Andre IS the HKS GTR driver, Dryhopp has retired from racing... so thats the way its going to be.

The HKS GTR is likely to be beaten regardless of whoever is driving it, Heat Treatments are running Methanol and have had prolonged development - not to mention they have actually done a faster time already. The HKS car's last times I am aware of were 7.9 in Oz and 8.1 in Thailand, with Tetsuya driving... so Andre best not get mocking for not being able to drive if he does in that range or slower.

I think we should be glad to see it here to be honest, its going to be a cool show.

anyone that can do under a 10 second can drive
there is no debating that
andre can drive
theres no debating that

besides...from my understanding anythign run at the taupo track still isnt constated and a W/R time
they still run the wrong timing system ??

without trying to start a shitfight gotta say i disagree.
isnt the main point the fact they are putting the technology and development of both cars up against each other?
ignore the fact they are slightly different setups

i wouldnt really be bothered if it was midgets driving each id still be keen for a watch.

Fair call mate. Im pretty patriotic when it comes to stuff like this, so i was looking foward to a Japan v NZ grudge match. Its like when Aus play Eng in cricket. Eng mat have invented the game, but the underdog now kicks their ass :) Either way its going to be a daaamn good race. Any TV coverage planned?

I think a small part of the attraction is lost with no HKS team driver but I agree with flygt4 that for the most part, its about seeing two 7 sec GTR's roaring down the 1/4.

If HKS are going to let andre drive the car then I wouldn't be one to disagree.

You just jealous we actually have a track and weather capable of allowing good times

I think that HKS 7.6 something 5 years ago says alot about HKS and how far ahead they were and for them to put the car out against oppositon that have gone faster and beaten there record Qudos to them I no alot of other teams would develop more before they put up against the Heat Treatments car which has had alot of development over the past 3-4 years where as it sounds like HKS have just dusted off the cobwebs and are straight back into it running low 8s....

As for the driver's I think Tetsuya Kawasaki would definitely have the edge over Andre in High HP drives as I got plenty of DVD and Video footage of him running all soughts of 1000 plus HP weapons in Japan. Not having a man as good as him behind the wheel is also going to be a big disadvantage for the HKS car as I think its going to need all the help they can get.

Hp well I have'nt heard an official number posted by either car but I think it is safe to say the HKS would be on par with the Veilside R32 which is in the neighbourhood of 1400 HP but with the Heat Treatments car running on Methanol you would have to assume the same or more but who know's until we see a dyno sheet and all the rest is just speculation...
