3am in the morning on a private road....honest!!

My N/A AE82 1985 Fxgt has done 183kph in 4th gear it was only just starting to pass 7500rpm, the speedo needle was starting to hit the dash so I slowed down. but I had no backseats no spare tyre in the car was almost emptied, was actually the freakish thing i've ever experienced. non standard gearbox helped. Orange one with bonnet scoop if you live out west auckland u mite have seen it around.

its for sale if any one wants it :P can't beat 4age pwr.

My daily drive has 280kw. Open road over taking you have to be very very careful, as if you take 3 cars at WOT, you'll hit a similar speed on pulling back in.

Not that i'm admitting to that of course.

4-AGE 4-LIFE wrote:Been in a GTR R34 the one featured in performance car cover car issue# 112 in april, only at 240 but i know it does 300+ easy

I nearly got a ride in the red R32 GT-R in NZPC issue #100 (or 101?) but everytime we sorted out a day it rained. :(

Can you imagine what it would have been like in the wet - it loses traction to all four wheels in third gear (and jumps to the next lane) with slickish tyres on a decent road surface! It hits boost about 5,000rpm (and is apparently stupidly powerless under that) and when it does it jumps straight to the limiter with all four wheels spinning. Was built for top end racing in Japan by the street racer that owned it by the sound of things. The guy eventually got caught, had the car impounded, it was then sold by the Japanese Police and thats how it ended up in En Zed.

I may one day end up getting a ride in his 450 hp R32 GT-R race car, but that would still be more than good enough.

But the fastest speeds i've been;

Passenger: 160 km/h in my R32 GTS-4 (Dad driving)
Driver: 180 km/h in my R32 GTS-4 (hit the speed limiter - estimate it could do about 210-220 or so?).

Nothing too spectacular. :?

Fastest car i've been in was an R32 GTS-4 manual coupe around Levels Raceway in July last year, was an 'indian lap' or something so couldn't go too fast.

yeah its a common problem with attempting to drive a powerful car on the street. you spend more time concentrating on NOT going too fast :?

Faster than the ones from Chch, Dude there is a reason insurance is so cheap in chch.

But, yes Westies seem to have the most insatiable need for speed.

Most of the 1600n/a i've driven are also struggling by the time they get near 160kph.

the run up was bloody huge,

Mr revhead may remember as I think he went to one or two years ago.

I ran my Evo an taking off from a standing start it was probably30 sec's at WOT from a standstill till you got to the start of the timed area.
If you stood in the timed area you could not see the line of cars at each end.

oooh yeah i remember. kinda
out clandyboye.

yeah was a rather looong run up.
what was the fastest? i recall something like 185mph from murdochs s12?
but i could be totally wrong there as it was years ago

i do clearly remember watching the browns datson from the begining of the flying 1/4 with wing removed for extra speed using ALL the road due to a big wobble. i could see his eys open reeeaaal wide 8O

I'm keen to disable the speed cut on mine and see how many rev's it'll pull in top. Tim's (boxxy) ae86 with 4.1 diff on 195/50/15's saw 7K rpm which we worked out is similar to that speed.

Jeremy, with your 300hp/ton most things will feel average or slow on acceleration. Although sounds like you would make use of a lower ratio box or higher diff and get there even quicker :D

Stock bluetop 1984 AW11. Oversized tires on the back, an estimated 191 when the 180 speed cut comes in. I would not recommend this to anybody as they don't feel very stable at that sort of speed. Also smells like oil when you slow down :(

I went 125 MPH down the back straight at Pukekohe racetrack in my TA22 celica during an early morning practice. (cold air is awesome)

7500rpm in 4th Not bad for a NA 2T-G with twin 40's

Haha. Have done around 180-200kmh in my MR2. But more recently in Germany was ripping along the autobahn in a tiny Renault doing similar speeds... but I did get a taxi ride 120km's doing 180kmh+ in a Mercedes LEGALLY but it cost me eur140 (nz$300!) - from now on I'll alway check the airport is the right one :D

Cheers

most 4agzes make around the same power as a healthy blacktop 95-105kw atw, with a bit more low down torque. i dont think it would be enough difference to make them a top end monster tho.
the long 3rd gear in the 4agze would probly account for most of the difference, ie im unsure on rev limits and exact ratios but an n/a would probly be changing into 4th at ~ 135-140ish and then trying to pull in 4, whereas a 4agze can stretch its legs in 3rd a bit further, probly to 155-160.

Hit the speed cut in my ae101 a number of times. Says about 190 odd on the speedo
Managed to get up 200ish in my Cordia turbo so far with relative ease, was probably good for a bit more too. Didnt feel 'floatey' either which was surprising

But the quickest ive been is 220 in a VN Calais V8, that was years ago now though

They're surprisingly not bad huh? I had mine up to an indicated 210kph back in my younger more foolish days.
