so yeah they do exist, but the difference is only cosmetic stuff nothing to really rave on about



yea true, has the 3rd gen 3sge some trd leads and a s/steal exhuast with a trd muffler so goes alright :P

that mr2 looks awsome, would they be a turbo?

i have a 3sgte group a engine from factory honestly! and they evan put the st202 lsd box in but they had to cut out bonnet supports to... :) wai**** toyota warrent it so it must be factory else they would ask were the cert plate is :D :lol: :wink:

That TRD 2000GT? It is, and I believe they're fairly substantially modified too...

A TRD2000GT is purely a bodykit. Once installed the car becomes a TRD2000GT with it's own TRD chassis plate.

You could have it installed on your MR2 from new by itself or with other modifications/parts as you wished.
It could be installed on a turbo or non turbo model, manual or auto.

The TRD2000GT was a special release from toyota, all having the TRD widebody kit and substantial engine upgrades as standard.

Some (or all?) came out the factory with around 495hp, only 35 where made I believe.

Speaking of lurking that TRD GT 3000 Supra lives in WGTN a Asian guy own's it and is running a T-88 and a 6-speed now as originally used to run the factory set up and used to be a Auto...TRD bodykits are just works of art I have'nt really seen anything out there that looks and functions as well as the TRD kits.

That's not correct. The badge TRD2000GT was available to every SW20 which had the wide bodykit fitted regardless of mechanicals.

In exactly the same vein the Wellington based TRD3000GT that 2jayzgte wrote of left the TRD factory as an auto with no LSD & standard rims. It's only additional TRD components being an oil & radiator cap.

SW20 TRD2000GT

In 1998, Toyota Racing Development [2] offered an official kit body conversion and tuning programme for Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) owners to transform their existing SW20 MR2 into a widebody TRD2000GT kit replica car. This was to pay homage to the wins by their TRD2000GTs in the GT-C Japanese racing series, the TRD2000GT racing series cars were based on the SW20 floorpan. Toyota also did the same with their Supra Twin Turbo model, offering a conversion service to transform these cars into a TRD3000GT[3].

In order to ensure exclusivity, a high price tag was charged and total of just 35 factory car conversions where completed by Toyota Technocraft Ltd. Each official car converted was made using lightweight fibreglass components (in place of heavy steel original parts, front wings/fenders, boot lid, rear quarter panels, front and rear bumpers, etc.) and re-classified as completely new cars (with their own specially numbered TRD vin plate rivited to the body to indicate their authenticity and rarity).

All official TRD2000GT's had a 60 mm (2.4 in) wider front and rear track which improved handling considerably over the original suspension design. Virtually every car converted also had other TRD parts fitted too including extensive changes to both the suspension and engine. Some cars left the factory boasting up to 500 PS (493 hp/368 kW) and less than 1100 kg (2425 lb) for a very impressive power to weight ratio. TRD Japan never sold body parts for third-party conversion separately (except rear wing), they transformed complete cars.

Only 3 complete cars are known to have been shipped into Europe with only 10 complete kit conversions allocated to TRD USA for the entire American market. This makes these officially built TRD2000GTs the rarest of all MR2s and ultimately the most sought after and difficult to find. It is unknown how many original (non factory replica) cars still exist today. In many respects the extended body can be compared to that of a Porsche Turbo widebody. The car track width is extended and body dimensions dramatically changing the cars overall visuals, giving the car a "supercar" look, and also better handling and weight reduction. Very little is known about these cars outside of Japan.[4] :)

Gotta be careful with Wikipedia stuff eh, its user submitted stuff, so might not be acurate or could be misleading.

But yea, from what I've seen round the net (People on forums who actually have a TRD2000GT) there are some that are beasts, and some which have a pretty much stock engine.

Theres a guy in the UK who has one which is #8. Its actually full of HKS and Apexi parts, hardly any TRD in it at all!
Then I saw another one from the MKIV Supra forums which was just asthetics. Had a pic of the engine bay and the engine was looking very standard.

I was under the impression that TRD do not actually manufacture the car they just add there parts to give them a point of difference..Don't quote me though I could be wrong but that was my impression.

You'll find there are a few "special factory" kits which are quite up there, a garage with these beasts would do it for me:

Graeme Alexander who died last year I believe had a TRD 3000GT kitted Supra years ago, that thing was quite angry - used to pick fights with superbikes on the motorway back in the day. Not sure what mods it had, I wasn't so au-fait with big turbos etc back then :oops:

TOM'S build a 2.2l 3SGE by the way, and a 1.8l blacktop 4AGE
Imagine if all sw20s had this body and a V6 or more powerful 3SGTE, they would be true visual and performance competitors with NSX and Ferrari 348s 8) Damn sexy. But then MR2s would be way too rare for average jokers like us :)

I had a special edition TTE IS200 Compressor, it was #3 of only 100 built, had a build plate number and every thing, it featured 35 modifications over a standard model. Sold it last year.

my MA61 supra was done up by TRD while it was in japa land its got bigger & better breaks than stand & a supercharger 5M-GEZU iv never managed to find any factory specs for the motor but the paper work witch i ght translated it also has a 3 tone paint job witch i dont think is factory as its talked about it in the paper work

8 inches shorter than factory
lightweight interior
modified front track
modified rear track
different taillights to the JDM version

1 of 1 ever made :lol:
