hed unit blew up

my dad got me sum pece of shit hed unit just as a first radieo
well my mate out it in for me a lil later i took my car for a burn and a lil way down a $&#$% load of smoke came pooring out of it
terns out the erth wier like kinda blue up and burnt off all the plastic insulation
any ideas on what went rong?
my mates dad said it was installed right

are usually the worst at wiring head units.

we get them in at work fried all the time,

and acording to the person who had no idea how to wire a stereo it was wired right.

Right down to the one that came from repco, that the chick's boyfriend had installed with the 25mm selt tappers screwed in the side to hold it in.

Best one I got was a chap who'd had a headunit installed professionally by a Spoilers, Stereos and Suspensions place who rang up complaining the headunit didnt go.
When I looked at it, the mutants had left the transport screws in place...somehow ignoring the bits of red tape that went across the face of the unit, held on by said screws which said "remove before installation"

LMAO. On a completely unrelated topic what are those transport screws for?

They hold the laser for the CD player in a static position to prevent it from damage in the event of a knock or something.

oh right, good to know. Do all cd players have this? I didn't see any on a few head units I put in, I would know if they were there wouldn't I? Actually they were on a crappy warehouse one but not the pioneer ones.

When i was doing some work for a sparkie, he decided to wire his own head unit, and used the illumination wire as an earth. He asked me to fix it. I found a pile of at least 6 fuses upto 30A on the floor

Well if a fuse blows, obviously you're meant to put in a bigger one

OR you could do it like me and just put some Nr.9 wire in where the fuse blew so it can't blow up next time.

No, most of the good brands dont have them now. Just seems the cheap junky ones do. You'll notice if you didnt remove them as the unit wont take CD's

For the cheaparse branded stereo's that have runnber bands inside them to work as the anti-shock mechanism,

it's too stop them breaking when the monkey's at the warehouse throw then round before they stack them on the shelf.

Decent stereo's have decent quality stuff in them so they are not so fragile that stacking them upside down in the warehouse roots them.

well the hed unit was taken apart and there was nothing wrong with it so we put a new erth wier on it and its running fine now
i still dont get what would have fried the erth wier

altho the priciples are the same behind everything electrical , qualified electricians have a special way of doing things
ive had a few 12v electricial boo-boos in my time, had a scare when i thought id wiped all the maps off my link at one stage.was bout that stage when i took it to someone who had a clue turned out it wouldnt operate below a certain voltage and my battery hadnt been charging as it was busted.
