I've encountered a rubbing problem in my left wheel of my AE101 Trueno - completey standard. Just recently i invested with some new tyres and a wheel alignment. But then i found out i had a stuffed rack end so i got that fixed and then took it back for the realignment. But now with that all completed I have a nasty rubbing sound when I turn right at a consiberable speed. especially starting from a complete stop into a right turn. The sound ONLY occurs when i turn right, not LEFT. I've tooken the car back to the tyre place, plus another place as well as a work shop and all three of them don't know what it is. There is some very minimal guard rub but not much to make the sound. It is not the backing plate either and all my joints seem fine also. The mechanic doesn't think its my diff also, probably due to the sound only occurs whilst turning right. Also FYI, 3 months i had replaced the left hub and the tyres are the right size also - 14"

Any ideas or have any of you expericened this?

If they cant find any play in any joints or rubbing marks from interferance Id say its screwed a l/f wheelbearing or drive flange.

w/bearings and flanges seem to be quite a common fault on corollas, L/F side in particular. Normally works out cheaper to throw a complete 2nd hand hub on, like youve already done.....

not just corollas either, the celicas do the same thing to the LF wheel bearing.must be an early 90's toyota thing. if anybody ever figures out why id love to know :lol:

oh trueno turbo, my driveshaft is sitting on the floor of your work now . i gave up trying to bash the hanger off :lol:

That might have to be the go. I had a stuffed wheel bearing a while back and the hub was rooted. So replaced the whole hub but that was only a few months ago.

just a guess but probably something to do with the direction of the force applied when you're turning

oh ok, I was wondering where that was from, Ill have a look at it tomorrow for you, Serv/Manager will no doubt give you a bell re-pricing etc.

have u tested ur shocks ? may be a cause of that , can u see any rubbing marks anywhere ?

my shocks are fine as well as my bearing and hub. I replaced the inner guard and i can now see that it is rubbing the the inner guard that sits above the tyre at the front right of the guard near the firewall. I have no idea on how to stop it too. My tyres are the right size to, it aint lowered either.

I cant stand the noise! It sounds ugly

you say completly stock...
so not lowered? what wheels does it have?
to hit there somehting has to be very wrong.

I have some 14" alloys with just some dunlops on em. Nothing fancy. It's clearly rubbing the guard but i can't work out why. I've had 5 people look at it and they dunno either. They can't see anything mechanically wrong with it. It's only when i turn fully to the right. The guards sitting as far back as i can get it too.

Any ideas? Im stumped!

After further inspection i can't see anywhere possible for the tyre to rub or the wheel. Theres too much clearence. I can't pick up the sound whilst jacked up either.

Not ss and are you definately sure it's you tire on the inner guard?? Put something up there that will rub off easily to confirm that it is, like paint or something similar. If it is it sounds like the whole wheel is actually moving forwards whiclt turning which probably means that it will be moving back when turning left?? Are all the suspension bolts and control are bolts back in properly etc, i've seen similar happen through not tightening a lower arm up properly :oops:

theres to much clearance for it to rub. I will go over and check all the nuts tomorrow. will let you know

All bolts were fine. Its not rubbing any guard either. It only seems to happen when i accelerate when turning right?????
