Converting 4agze to rwd set up

Postby quicklvn » Tue Jan 16, 2007 8:32 am

I've got myself an AE85 project car running a smallport supercharged engine (currently in the car).

The guy I got it off converted it to N/A and put high comp pistons from a 20v in it ( also changed the ecu, loom etc).

Now I wanna go back to a supercharged setup for a bit more power  and I think its going to be easier/cheaper to just buy a new 4agze and swap it rather than changing all the parts over (pistons, supercharger, pulleys etc).

My question is, i've heard that you have to change some things over for a rwd setup (intake manifold???), is this difficult or can I just swap parts off my old one to complete the swap? It already has rwd t50 gearbox and bellhousing setup in the car.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question ( i'm a bit new at this stuff).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. 8)

swap all the rwd stuff over and chuck it in, if the intake manifold is different then your supercharger piping is gonna need to be custom

I'm not sure I think it's standard but I just heard that you have to swap the intake manifold over or something??? As I said engine conversions are sort of new to me. I can't see any reason why the whole engine couldn't just be swapped over.

Nah I heard someone say intake manifold and I was like WTF? didn't think it mattered.

I have rwd extractors already (however only standard AE85 ones) I'm not sure if these are up to handling the 4agze or not?

By the way thanks for all your help.

havent seen it aply for your motor but with some motors the intake runs along the back by the fire wall in FWD & accross the top of the cam cover to an intake on the other side for RWD

by the sounds of it your referring to an NA or turbo application, where you get an NA intake manifold, and cut and shut (put the throttle body on the end toward the front of the car. UNLESS you can find a rwd intake manifold.

with supercharger setup, (sounds like your going for a basic one), you use the factory 4agze intake, but you will need custom piping as i'm assuming you'll go front mount at the same time like everyone else does.

hope that helps somewhat

Will it? By the sound of it i'm looking at:

$400-$500 min for pistons
$500 min for supercharger and pulleys quite possibly more for belts etc.

or $600-$800 for a complete engine off trademe or similar.

Thats just what I have seen so definately correct me if I'm wrong.

How much can you do parts for Mr Revhead?

Cheers

more like $12-1500 for a 4agze engine.

spend that much on a rebuild and you have a new engine
