Rip off insurance companies

Postby B ROWDY » Wed Jan 17, 2007 12:50 pm

I have a huge problem with S***E Insurance right now, I made a claim on my Sera which I crashed and it was in turn (after 16 days of waiting) classed as a Write Off ( Or un-economical to repair). I queried my excess which is $1000 and really high considering I have never made a claim, or crashed, one ticket years ago and drive a 1500cc piece of slowness and they said, right yes its high, we will make it $750 for you (still high but better than the original rip off amount), and then offered me a settlement figure which I agreed to based on the new excess, I then get a call today and spend 42 minutes on hold then get told that the person who changed my excess was un authorised to make the change and that the new settlement amount will be based on the original amount of excess, so I got pretty upset (wasnt my fault he wasnt allowed to do it) and said out of bloody goodwill (yeah right its state) they should honour the verbal agreement I made with the person, thay spouted some legal worded BS (standard arse covering answers) and dismissed me. I have cancelled the policy and am applying for a refund of premiums paid over the time the vehicle has been off the road, Im still mega mad

Share your stories of wanker companies here to make me feel better please 8O

Car broken into one night while parked outside mum's house, stereo taken (and dashboard ripped apart), along with 12 CDs and a couple of odds and ends. The car insurance covered the stereo and damage alright but in order to claim for the CDs I would have had to make a second claim on my home contents insurance which, while they said I would only have to pay one excess would affect the no claims bonus on both policies. And they refused to pay the replacement value of the CDs, instead valuing the singles at $16 and doubles at $18 - and no they wouldn't replace the CDs for me instead of paying me their value.

Funnily enough that was State Insurance too, and their representatives on the phone were very rude and non-understanding when I tried reasoning with them. Want to talk to someone face to face? Don't go to a State office, they only handle sales...

So I changed all my policies I had with State over to AMI as they expired and I'm now with a much more friendly company where I can expect to talk to people face to face... and I'm paying a lot less than I was previously into the bargain!
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

I tried to insure my LX76 MK2 wagon with AMI. They told me that, due to my age, they couldn't provide me with cover for a 2400cc vehicle as it would be too powerful. It's a freaking diesel!

My brother was with state when he has his silvia stolen, they stuffed him round for ages too. the recovered and repaired it, but sice his wheels got stolen they just said to him here's $500 for new wheels. "Cool, now how exactally do I go and get my new wheels guys"

Worked out ok in the end though. He got a free respray for all the dent/scratches that obviouslt happened after it was stolen

Lol, you must be the only one, Most people I know have been "previous" customers of them including me, I went the other way - AMI ---> STATE

AMI were charging me $750p/a for my Ae111 then the following year I get a letter from them saying "the cost of insurance has increased around the world and we've had to reflect that in our premiums" and tried to stitch me $1200 p/a - even though I had a 60% no claims bonus and contents + another car with them, I rang them up and ever so impolitely told them to stick their policies were the sun don't shine, Am now paying almost 1/2 the amount with state

Its interesting to read the crappy experiences some of u have had with state insurance as ive had both content and car insurance with them and ive made a few claims over time and they have been friendly, fast and helpful each time.
Unfortunatly when i got the 2jzgte they all but laughed when i asked for insurance, even thou my other car was insured with them also. So ive had to change to pioneer insurance for both.
But overall id rate state pretty well :)

Yeah, I'm the same. Never had any problems with state. But they wouldn't insure my car once it had the roll cage installed.
Mind you it does cost me and my partner $600/yr to insure my 1500cc auto corolla thats worth less than $3k :? only costs me $380/yr to insure a 2ltr turbo mr2 race car worth 5 times that.

Insurance has been resonably kind to me.

Im 20 and only paying $550 y/r full cover on my SC AW11.

But whats it worth, $600?

ughhh state, when i wrote off my rolla (my fault). I rang them up and said basically i got $1,000 sitting here with your name on it who do i send it to etc . They said NO you must wait for us to send u a letter so i thought ok thats fine whatever ill probly get one couple days later. 6 MONTHS later i got a letter asking for the money, so needless to say they are getting $10 a week

They are tossers, said i couldnt lower my car etc etc aswel.

Ohhh and AMI $175 per month for my 1300cc corolla, full insurance :?

My advice would be: ALWAYS record your calls to insurance companies when making a claim.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I had my Evo insured with AMI years ago when they were not common and worth a shitload more than they are now.

I rung them up and added my girlfriend to the policy and they said fine all done.

Then I passed the phone to her to add me to her 1990 FXGT corolla,
but they would not cover me as it was classed as a performance vehicle.

WTF?

I said that if they wouldn't we would just change both over tom another company and they changed there mind.

AMI insure the MR2 3rd party for $100 P/A.

Pairents are a bit pissed with them at the moment, as one of their rental houses got burnt out. We only had house insurace as we figured contence was up to the tennent. Turns out Carpet is contence, only put new carpet in in June. Hanging light fittings are also contence. But down lights are house.....OK then...

Before I was 25 most (including those mentioned here) wanted $800 per annum to insure my old 88 Prelude (probably worth $1500). Why? It has a sunroof, 2 door and Manual. Apparently, shes still a sports car. Its not the early nineties anymore people.

And the amount of trouble finding someone who would insure the rallycar third party - I know it has all the bits that would scare them off, but since you don't have insurance on a racetrack or racing in general (obviously) and I only wanted it to cover me driving to / from events... I mean, c'mon?

I guess they figured I would be using it doing the Colombo on a Friday night. Riiiight.
