Car Alarm Boot Sensor

I have had a car alarm installed in my Caldina GT-T. The car alarm is fully wired and installed by a authorised installer. The car alarm will go over if any of the car doors are opened while alarmed.

However if the car is broken into via the boot the alarm does not go off!!!

The installer said this is due to the sensor or wiring inside the boot latches. He said you will notice if you leave doors open the door light sensor goes on. If you leave the boot open the door light sensor does not go on. I also noticed there is a roof light in the boot which does not work.

I do not understand alarms very well but the installer said every door has a little push in button or sensor for the door light or to show the car door is closed. They said this is affecting the alarm going of from the boot since the boot sensor is not working or the wiring within the boot latches are damaged......

I cannot get the car into a auto electrician until next week but are wondering if anyone has experienced this or can offer any assistance.

hmmm ive never worried about my boot nor test it out to see if it works with the alarm, it will be damn hard trying to break in from the boot as the only way to open it is from the push button, unless they have a key to turn it not like someone can put a coat hanger down the window or open the boot from the inside
but there should be a way to fix the door sensor somewhere

check the bulb in the roof light - if broken replace and then check alarm arming.

basically the alarm is wired so that when the light turns on and the alarm is armed then the siren will go off.

if you have a broken bulb then alarm won't go off.

alternatively the installer could just be lazy and is blaming the car instead of finding the problem and getting the alarm to work properly..

A blown bulb will not stop the alarm going off. The alarm is wired to the switch that activates the light, no through the light.

Quite often in boots the latch / switch gets all gummed up with crap and won't function. Try spaying out the latch with CRC or similar. Quite often a new switch is needed though. You may have to pay the installer for his time to investigate this further.

Nothing saying the alarm installer did wire it up said way tho

If the switch does not work the light, the switch is at fault and will not work the alarm either.

*I should lube the boot latches.
*Check light bulb ( more likely the switch)
*Get auto electrician or alarm installer to investigate further.

LOL - that is probably why i dont' take much interest in alarms.. though really i should be looking at better security for the upcoming build..

ahh but did the alarm go off? thats the real concern

unless you dont have an alarm, which would confuse me as to why you were worried in the first place unless you were just concerned your boot light didnt go?

Are they not seperate circuts on most wagons?
ie two different interior lights?

I have found out it was a faulty boot swith. Entire thing needs replacing.

$400.00 for brand new part.

I managed to get a 2nd hand part for $90.00.

Have no idea if this is a good deal. But $90.00 is better than $400.00 any day!

If you know how to do any wiring yourself, you could buy a small pushbutton switch and fasten it to the base of your boot (near the bottom between the door and your car) and wire that to the alarm instead of to the switch, so when the door is opened even the smallest part, the alarm is set off. Thats how mine works...

Quite often the boot light switch is not connected to the rest of the system in a wagon, the door light on the dash does not come on when you open the boot.

Also on most modern toyota's the drivers door is a separate circuit to the rest too to allow for the feature where you open the drivers door with the key out and the windows work.
You should also check that the alarm operates from the passengers doors.

Normally when we wire alarms we hook the door trigger to the wire up to the roof light to get around that, and hook the bonnet and boot switches together,
That just means the boot light may go when you open the bonnet.

If the switch replacement doesn't fix it there are other options.

And we always make sure that the boot is triggered on a wagon.
How do you know if the boot locking motor fails? do you check it every time you lock the car?
That means that someone may just be able to climb in and acess the whole car.
Not likely but possible.
