Oil leak from oil filter area?

Postby Coke » Mon Jan 22, 2007 2:08 pm

Ive noticed a oil leak commming from or around the oil filter area. The car is a jza80 2jzge supra. Ive sinced swaped the filter with a new one but still getting a leak. Can put my hand on the filter from engine bay and get new oil all over it so its definately comming from the filter or around where the filter screws into the engine. Im sure i put the new oil filter on properly so what could it be?
Thanks in advance

If you srew it on too tight, it will leak. Too loose, oil will piss out.. seen both...

Simple thing but have you cleaned the contact area where the rubber seal touches from oil filter? Little bit of dirt can make it leak....

The filters not to loose or tight im sure. Cleaned it well to. Im guessing its gotta be something a little more complicated since it was leaking like this before i put the new filter in place. What els could it be? cheers

I dont know if your engine oil filter set up is similar to a 20v but I had a leak like that on my 20V and it was the O-ring seals that seal up where the oil filter spigot bolts on to the block, there are two O rings in this area for the 20V. It solved the problem on my car and it was an easy fix parts where $20 maybe and took 30 mins including the oil change (might as well do it while the filters off anyway.

It is sandwitched between 2 metal parts that form oil filter holder.
