yea that qualifying format is awsome. better than F1, you know what lap is the lap they are racing for a qualfing, better to watch.

mm could be abit tight aye , they made the old track just after turn 9 really wide though.

For me personally I prefer F1 the cars and drivers are far superior in my view..While the A1 is a good thing for NZ and gives our country good coverage world-wide.F1 is the pinnacle alot of people find it boring but not me I loved watching Alonso and Schumacher going heads up to decide last years title and I don't think A1 holds that sought of rivalries between teams or drivers.

While I was not at Taupo I have been to Melbourne to watch the F1 and it truely is a spectacle theres nothing like hearing a V-10 revving at 18-19,000 rpm going past you so to me while the A1 is good F1 is the one I prefer...... :D

yeah while the A1 sound like F1 cars, they arent as loud or as high pitched, but you can tell they would be with an extra 6000rpm or so.

i have to say it was a FANTASTIC weekend. iv been to to the melbourne GP and of the t1o, id take A1 at taupo easy.
a lot fo that is to do with the layout, at albert park you see the little section of track your at, at taupo you see it all. also the gaps in the programme are much longer at the aussie gp. often with 1.5-2 hours with NOTHING happening.
F1 and A1 are different, each has things about it better than the other.

now, taupo is not narrow! from watching the race in person, and alos seeing the TV images on the big screen, the camera is a bit deciving in a lot of things. as for the racing and passing, yeah not the easiest place to pass at, but there was still quite a bit of it going on. heaps of action i LOVED IT!
:D have to say though, 2-3 dodgy calls during the last race where the safety car should have been deployed (and had been in the same situations in previous sessions) big ups to germany, that guy drove superbly, also same to reid, ill take 3rd anyday!

ill be there again next year, should be even better ae the organisers will have learnt a lot from this year 8)

now...... im haning out for eastern creek :D

3.5ltr zytex V8s putting out 550hp, they were talking about making it 750 next year, which will be funny as some drivers (pakistan) couldnt handle the 550 they had! 8O

They're about 520HP and are 550HP when they're on 'power boost' mode. How is that done? Like cam timing or through NOS or something like that?

I looked on the A1GP site and they didn't have any info on it. (From what I found)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Anyone watch the TV one Motorsport as well? The host (John someone?) was bad mouthing A1 saying that it wasn't going to make enough money to sustain itself for further seasons, and that the man responsible for starting thr whole thing has just pulled out due to it not being profitable. Maybe this is just TVNZ throwing its toys, but it would be interesting to hear other peoples views on this.

Colin Giltrap (who funds both the NZ A1 effort as well as NZ Porsche GT3 and TRS cars).has anounced to the media that funding will more than likely be reduced (or withdrawn) unless other money turns up. he is looking to the Govt for some tin, as they support other 'rich mans ' sport, and the ecomonic spin-offs for NZ (especially Taupo) are huge. it will be interesting to see if Mallard and co come to the party as they have previously for the America's Cup yacht races.

Yeah totally. It would be a shame to see it fall by the wayside.

It has some finacial difficulties it lost $200m last year off the top of my head. It doesnt have very good tv coverage around the world but time will tell. and they announced 750hp cars and a new chassis and tyres for 2008/9

The weekend was absolutely AWESOME :D Not only for the A1GP cars but the support races were absolutely fantastic! The quality of the driving and entertainment was kept throughout the whole weekend. The only 'what the hell' part was the float that wen't around after the A1GP drivers in the porsche's (Did you see that on the TV?).

I think that with some better seating sales it will be even better next year, definately going!
