If it's an all out race car then go as light as you can without getting to the extreme where the flywheel flexs to much when you try to engage the starter & it becomes difficult to start(found this out a while ago) providing that you are using a billet flywheel. Overall weight isn't so important, you want to take as much weight as you can off the larger diameters & concentrate any mass in the middle, if you can I'd go with the smallest diameter clutch you can use that will handle the power, make the flwheel to suit so all the weight is in close around the clutch & then just run 5 spokes out to the ring gear. You can run either steel or aluminium but I generally try & stay with a steel flywheel as I can get them down to much the same weight as aluminium if you take into acount the strength of them & you don't have to worry about the friction surface coming loose etc.

agree with atmo.

Light as possible!
Twin+ plates are good for this too.
Solid puck on a cheaper budget.
