Driving with no bonnet..

Hey, Can someone tell me whether its against the law to drive with no bonnet?? As i need to pick up a bonnet from Whangamata and bring it back to hamilton. so id have to drvie there with no bonnet in order to bring it back.

You might be able to gain some leaniancy under those situatiuons, just take a map and details of where your going to get said bonnet i dare say you would get off it should you get pulled over, but it isnt leagal.

Like when you get pulled over without a WOF but can prove you are driving to get one? Similar situation id imagine

I've done it, you just get weird looks. My bonnet was getting painted so I had a reason. I remember parking up and some smart arse decided to disconnect my coil HT lead lol. Don't see why its "highly" illegal though.

i think they dont like it cause if you hit someone with no bonnet they hit the motor. the bonnet is spose to soften the impact a little i guess. ill just dump my current bonnet over there i think.

Just wait until someone without a bonnet hits you, as a pedestrian. Once you've finished pulling yourself off/out of the drivebelts/superhot manifold/engine fans, you'll understand why its' very illegal to drive without one.

You're likely to get a pink sticker and $400 fine.

i'm not sure how far it is, but this could be an option if you wanted to keep your current bonnet.

or you could try attatching it to your car somehow :lol:

i'd probably just strap it down somewhere

why not just drive over with your current bonnet, get the new one and then dump the old one at a scrap metal place or something over there?:S

Its 1 1/4 hr drive. not keen to strap the bonnet on my roof lol. yeah not gonna risk driving over with no bonnet. gonna drive over with my current bonnet and take it to a scrap metal place or the dump and bolt the new one on for the drive home.

Seriously?! I think its going to be the frontal impact of the car that will do the damage to the person. Without causing a debate the possibility of the person somehow wedging themselves into the drivebelts of the cars motor would have to be rather slim don't ya think.

Anyway the laws in place for a reason so I wont be doing that again. In saying that I must say I see a lot of people (especially rotarys) driving around without bonnets.

I could be wrong on this one, but ti's been covered before. It is I believe possible to get your car certed with no bonnet providing that any fan/belt drive etc on the front of the engine is shielded in such a way that IF(IF being the magical word) you do happen to hit a person hopefully they won't get caught up in the fan/pulleys etc. Now I don't know about you but I got my finger caught in a v belt setup on the front of an engine which wasn't going(Putting an engine in) & it was sore enough & did enough damage to my fingers without even thinking what a moving one would do. Other option is just pay the person & get a courier/parts courier etc to pick it up or go over in a van/ute or with a trailer & pick it up, if you do it this way take some bubble wrap/Duvets etc to wrap it up with.

i remember someone said go grab a wof with out the bonnet, than drive to pick up ur bonnet, if you get pull over by police, just say u ar off to pick up the new bonnet.

fold the old one in half throw it in the back of the car just bend it and jump on it,or deposit it in a panel beaters skip bin lol or even better tow someone down the beach with a rope

seen that done (the beach) the bonnet was nice and polished and the dude was like "sweet chrome bonnet" then he went out the enxt morning and it was brown ha
