silvertop 20v into ae92

Postby deaf_rattle » Mon Sep 05, 2005 8:01 pm

i have been doing my research, and from what i can gather

use the ae92 4age engine mounts
my manual gearbox will bolt up (use my fly wheel and clutch as well)
i will need to sort out the coolant lines, but not if i put in a ae101 radiator as well.
the throttle cable will swap straight over as long as i use the ae101 pedal.

i will need to get the exhaust modified

then there is the wiring.

Will the ae92 power steering pump bolt up?
Will the stock starter motor work with the silvertop even tho it will be mounted on the opposite side? (using ae92 flywheel etc) ?

cheers

One question I can answer. As the starter motor is bolting up to your original gearbox, it will work. The 20V starter motor is a different bolt pattern.

An AE101 rediator in my AE92 sat a little too high for the bonnet to close completely so you might have to shorten the mounts on the bottom a little. Its little things like that that piss you off :P

the ae92 power steering pump should bolt up... you might need to modify the bracket a little so it sits right... but that wont take much....

see if you can source a silvertop power steering pump bracket so you can mix and match if needs be..

wiring can seem like a big task but once you get the pin out diagrams for both engines you'll be away. Theres not that many wires to actually get it running theres alot of crap and if you have any specific problems just ask on here

wiring was a bit of a hassle take the top of your red top computor to get the right pin out,all the ones i found on the net werent the same as mine , i couldnt get my 20v computer to trip my fuel pump so had to rewire that thats about it .

didnt get it certed my wof man happy to give it a wof keep the old vin plate off the 101 in the glove box tho its still a 4age 1587 cc just goes a bit better

The fuel pump problem is more to do with the circuit open relay and starter relay than trying to get the computer to do it. You also need to connect a wire from the AFM plug that goes to earth when the flap is open - white with black trace from memory. With the key on, push open the AFM flap and the fuel pump should run.

*Dredges up ancient topic with aid of search function*

I'm looking at possibly sticking a silvertop in a ae9(/8 )2 with either the original gearbox or a 6 speed item. What is required there?

What are the mounts like in the 1300 version? Will i need new mounts?

I dont think the silvertop came with a 6 speed did it? I assume that the blacktop gbox bolts right up? What are the differences (if any) in the mounts for the standard and 6speed? (Dont know the codes)

Cheers

Left hand gearbox mount on a 6speed is different from the 5 speed verisons. Can be modified to fit though pretty easily.

The gearbox itself will bolt to the silvertop.

1300 mounts would be different, as it wont be a a series motor. (I beleive). Get a 4afe/ge powered one to start with, much easier.

Alright, cheers for that.

One more question: Would that require Certing?

And off topic: What sort of engine is actually in the 1300 ones?

Yes, it will require certing. If its a 1300 it'll be an EE80/90, with a 2E of d00m.

How different are the 1300 mounts? Could i just get a set of fwd 4age mounts and chuck them in? And would the price on that make buying this worth while?

Thats assuming it's got a good body.

You have to unstitch the drivers side mount and get the 4age one welded on, it's not really worth the hassle
