Drag Slicks...

Postby no_8wire » Thu Feb 15, 2007 12:41 pm

Is the rim size stamped on the tyre the smallest rim you can put it on?
Eg slicks Im looking at have 15x7 on them and my rims are 15x6.5

I'd say you could probably fit them on a 6.5 but your tyrewall is going to be bulging over the side...

it's very common to run drag tyres on wheels much narrower than the tyre. If the size of the slick is 15x7 then they'll happily fit. Note that if they're full slicks then you'll need a enter the pro class to use them at any iDrag event, IIRC, which means cage etc.

Yep correct. Full slicks requires cage + pro class etc.

DOT rated is fine for normal events...

Yea as malcolm sed its quite comon, basically a tinner rim is lighter, some wheels are specially designed to bulge to a certain extent.

Wish someone told me that before the first event I ever entered.

Went to 4&R in 2002 with some old ( really old !! ) circuit slicks
and they put me in Pro-Import class,

I was up against Ronnie Lim's integra and the Mazsport RX7,
both at least 3 sec's quicker than me, so two runs and I was out !!

Since found out that the slicks I used were actually 1 sec slower than road tyres too!

Ah well, live and learn.

jeez matt, surely someone such as yourself, with a family involvement in motorsport would know to read the rules before you enter a competition?

LoL,

you would think so.

But had never even seen drag racing live before,

Just though that if i'm going I might as well take a car and run,
and that's just what tyres were there for me to use.

Going to enter again this year with the Focus.
Reg, Wof, and Road legal tyres.
