ethanol suppliers

Hi there guys... I got a little RC car of ebay a few months back, but it's not your normal little nitro car.

It runs on pump gas and ethanol. The instructions say it will run fine on 87 octane gas, but will be considerably better with a 25% ethanol mix.

Now it does approx 80km/h with BP ultimate, and I want to try it with the suggested 25% ethanol mix but I can't find a source for it anywhere near Dunedin.

Methanol is a lot easier to get hold of, but not suitable as the little engine is all Aluminium, and Methanol tends to eat aluminium whereas Ethanol doesn't.

It's not legal to sell 100% ethanol to the public, it has to denatured with at least 2% methanol, or petrol.

I doubt anyone will sell it mixed with petrol, but you can get methylated spirits (2% methanol) that printers use. Don't try the supermarket methylated spirits as that can contain up to 6% water as well as 0.5% pyridine.

2% methanol won't damage aluminium (neither would 100% methanol if it's not left sitting in a carburettor bowl), and it won't have any effect on AFR at such a low concentration.
