so trying to mount my gearbox up today i put the half shaft on the raer of the block to make it harder for myself

i lifted the e58 ae101 gtz lsd box up and i didnt get it on

as i was removing the box this little ring was left hanging on the spline of my halfshaft

description: its like a tightly wound spring making up a ring, it is about 45mm in diaqmeter

That looks like spring from seal.
If I were you I would just buy new seal...

Yeah, i agree with sergei.

100% sure thats the spring from inside the oil seal on the drive shaft.

Take the shaft off the block and put it on after, you should get it on easy enough.

But yeah, through the axle oil seal away and get a new one.

Yep, it's the spring from the seal.

The seal is cheap to replace, so might as well do it. Leaking gearboxes suck, and you need the spring to seal it properly.
