ST185 E150F question

Postby Boosted_162 » Fri Feb 16, 2007 1:08 am

Hey guys.

Im about to start putting my new engine in, and for a little bit of fun im gunna convert it to RWD :P. Do i have to lock the centre diff? Or just pull the front shafts? Ill be pulling the CV's off the driveshafts, and leaving them in the box and hubs so the oil stays in, and bearings dont $&#$% out. I keep seeing on the internet that you have to, but then i think it must have something in there to split the power, otherwise one wheel off the ground and i'd be $&#$%.

If i have to lock the centre diff, i'll do it to one of my boxes and keep the other 4WD.

Cheers

Yeh you will need to lock the center, and the rear otherwise it will be zero fun, spinning one wheel everywhere it goes.

you don't need to lock the rear since it has a torsen rear, but you will need to lock the centre (maybe just weld up the viscous coupling rather than pulling apart the whole gearbox to weld up the centre diff)

btw it wont last long, the centre diff is tiny and is unlikely to be very happy about the whole situation

Dammit . I was planning to use my box as RWD, and your old one for 4WD, but if it wont hold up i wont waste a box.

Can you get front LSDs for these boxes? Or should i find a E154F or whatever a 205 box is, and find something for that?

Haha, I know a guy who tried this not long ago, the rear diff lasted about 600m down the road! Not something I'd recommend..

there was no front LSD on any gt4/gt-t gearboxes as far as I'm aware. I think cusco might do one. A front LSD isn't that necessary IMO, even for what you want to do. If you really want to make the gt4 rwd you're far better off doing it properly, having said that the chassis isn't designed to be stressed by a North-south engine and so without adding significant stiffening it'll twist like a bastard, just like the 1uz st185 in aus. Maybe you should buy a DX corolla or something :P

If i was rich and had enough space, i'd mount the 3S north south with a W5x box. I think ill just keep the RWD plan for the AW11 thats coming next 8) :P

Sorry to burst your bubble, Toyota has stolen your plan. The AW11 is already RWD.

You should sue.
