No it wouldnt nessarly be a 5A-FE at all, they were both made.

Keep the car for now and save for a 4A-GE powered one.

There have been a couple of guys who have turbo'd their 4afe and 5afe motors.
But my recommendation... save up some $ and buy a wrecked AE111 4age car. Then transplant all the bits.
You will get a whole car for not much more than just the blacktop engine!
It also means you will have all the little brackets and hoses etc. to make sure that everything will work.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

yeah its not the best platform to start with. I would save all the cash you would have spent on mods, drive round in a economical fashion for a year, save hard out, then get yourself something decent.

Yup, save your money, buy a better car.

See my rant here about the pointlessness of up-speccing an entry-level model to a higher-spec model.

You'd find that the "standard" Intake and Exhaust mods would provide more power at the top end, probably at the expensive of responsiveness at the bottom end. But you'd also find that you'd be spending about the same amount of money on modding a 4AFE as you would on modding a 4AGE, and there is more to be gained by doing those mods to a 4AGE.

After driving the cynos (5afe) and a blacktop 111.

If you want a fast car.... buy a turbo one.
If you want a car that's cheap to run and good for low rpm driving around town... keep your current car intact.

Blacktops are overrated and pretty useless unless you're on the track all the time or live near decent roads.

Your current engine will respond to all the usual mods like filter and exhaust.

If you are too poor, put a redtop/bluetop in it with nasdy cams ('bout the same price as a blacktop?) chew the gas though.

This is a way old thread but here is an update...

AE111 4afe to 4age 20v blacktop.
Ewan (10k20v) did this conversion for a customer - 4afe auto to 4age auto on a AE111 Trueno.
The Blacktop loom and computer just plugged into the body loom and the engine ran! No wiring changes required!

FAQ This?
